It got leaked that Towes is on the cover of NHL 11. A lot of people are upset that they put a Chicago player on the cover two years in a row. I'm split on the issue. I mean he had a great year, won a gold medal and the stanley cup trophy in the same year. He was also the captain the blackhawks. I really like Towes, but I wish it was Ryan Miller, they haven't put a goalie in awhile, and he really deserves it., not saying Towes doesn't btw. I just really want a goalie on the cover. What do you guys think?

Who cares. This kid has had the best hockey year of his life. He deserves the cover just as much (if not more) than any other player, Blackhawk or otherwise.

@FakePlasticTree: A lot of people care. Ask any Red Wings fan, I'm sure they care. But I do see your point, their decision wasn't biased, they just picked the best player of the year.

But what makes any Red Wings player more eligible than Toews? He's one of the best all around players in the league, he won the cup, he won the Conn Smythe, and he won gold at the olympics. I can't think of anyone more deserving of the cover.

Ya I know, but the same could be said for any fan of any team, especially those Chicago eliminated. I don't see that as being anything other than a...well...fanboy. I'm not a Blackhawks fan by any means, but I really don't see how anyone could argue against him being on the cover, even if he is the second Blackhawk in a row to do so.

Also, going back to your original post, if it was going to be a goalie, it would probably be Niemi. He was a HUGE part of the reason Chicago won it all. Either that or Luongo. I don't imagine they'd put Miller on when he did nothing in the playoffs and came second at the Olympics. But, I agree it would be nice to see a goalie grace the cover again.

At first I was like another BlackHawk?. Then I quickly got over it. The cover does not make the game.

Has Lidstrom ever been on the cover? If not he should be over any other player till he is.

I couldn't care less who's on the cover though.

@FakePlasticTree: I didn't mean making an argument that he doesn't deserve it, because believe me I know he does, but that it's a little biased of EA to put them back-to-back. You know what I think would have been better? If they put him on in a Team Canada jersey. Gives props to the player, and doesn't use the blackhawks again...

@Hockeymask27: Yeah I don't really care much either, I just would have loved to see Miller on there.

Ya but the NHL games already sell well here, they don't need him in a Canada jersey to get sales. Also that may hinder sales in the US. Some people are really xenophobic. Doesn't really matter either way, I don't find it biased at all, plus there are usually different cover athletes for different parts of the world so if someone is so against buying it because a Blackhawk is on the cover they can always import it from another region if they want the games badly enough.

@FakePlasticTree: haha that's going a bit too far. I honestly don't care who's on the cover that much. Also in america, we're not nationalistic enough to boycott a game because of who's on the cover. That's really ridiculous. Also I was just trying to show you the other point of view in the argument, those weren't actually my opinions. I'm glad Towes is on the cover, he deserves it.

We could argue that point, but that's an entirely different conversation for an entirely different thread. You and I are in agreement that he deserves the cover, we'll just leave it at that.

He had 68 points this season, thats kind of low for someone who gets as much praise as Towes.  He's not even the best player on his team.

@Feanor: He led Team Canada to gold, and he led Chicago to the Cup in the same season, that's a pretty great season.. Obviously EA doesn't only look at who had the most points or else Kane wouldn't have been on '10 either.

@one_2nd: Not as much credit as you are giving him.  Look at Canada's team, do you really think it mattered who captained them?  Then look at what Ryan Miller did in the Olympics.  Only 2-3 people on the American team would have made the Canadian team, and Miller lead them to the silver, even beating Canada once.  I'd rather see the best goalie in the world on the cover than a borderline top 10 forward.

I think the choice of two Blackhawks in a row is kinda eh...There's lots of other people that could be on the cover. I wonder what curse will happen to Johnny this year:

    07: Ovechkin misses the playoffs
08: Staal gets arrested for his house party
09: Phaneuf got Avery's sloppy seconds
    10: Kane becomes "20 Cent"

@Blubba: alright yeah i agree with that.

@Absinthetic: me neither, but in madden it's a huge coincidence.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVuku6FiPfc also that video was made in 2007. In 2008, Young injured his knee. In 2009, Brett Favre led the league in interceptions. In 2010, both cover players got injured. If you don't see a pattern here you're blind.  Also the video left out '06. Mcnabb had an injury that year and missed 6 games.

Ryan Miller choked in the playoffs when it mattered, and Toews took his team to the finals and won, and was the best player in the finals, second only to Halak. Who cares what either player did in the Olympics, this is NHL 11 not IIHF 11.

And if you've been watching Toews over the last few years, you'd know he's easily one of the best forwards in hockey. The guy just wins, at every level, and is typically one of the best - if not the best - forwards on the ice in every tournament he competes in.

@Absinthetic: all i said was it's a pretty astonishing set of coincidences. Yes, injuries are common. But really these guys all had injuries that deeply affected their seasons in a row the years they were on the cover. Pick any NFL player right now and the chances are he won't get injured next season, so it's really against the odds that that would happen.

    Those are good picks.
I kinda think Stamkos would've been deserved as well, tying Crosby for the scoring trophy and all - and on pretty stinky team to boot.

I think the Sedins would have fit perfectly onto the cover
I mean if Daniel Sedin wasn't injured for 19 games then he would have been at the top of the scoring leaders chart too
and that's a lot to say for two brothers who were labelled as "the Sedin sisters" at the beginning of their career
