Solid Character Action Experience
Having quit halfway through Ninja Gaiden Sigma due to absurd checkpoints, I was overjoyed to see that almost all my complaints from the first game have been addressed in the sequel. At it's core, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is a gorgeous, fast-paced action game that allows you to perform flashy combos with a variety of weapons. The game gives you enough challenge to incent you to learn the different moves and experiment with new weapons. I appreciated the fact that while the combat is challenging, the rest of the game has been streamlined and made very approachable. The weapon upgrade system, checkpoints, item store, and level exploration have all been stripped down to the simplest possible form. This really allows you to focus on the combat, which clearly holds it's own enough to not require distractions such as stupid, playtime extending mini-games. While I am about to fire up Bayonetta, I think Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is the best character action game I've played to date. I would recommend it to anyone who feels that Devil May Cry is overrated or to those who are burned out on rehashed God of War games.
