At the moment we are not sure if "3DS" will be the name of Nintendo's new console or if it is just a temporary code name. Assuming it is a code name what would you like this new handheld to be called?
Myself i would love to see it being named the "Nintendo Revolution", the Wii's original code name. I just really like that name and I think that it fits the jump to 3D screens really well.
Nintendo 3DS

The Nintendo 3DS is a portable game console produced by Nintendo. The handheld features stereoscopic 3D technology that doesn't require glasses. It was released in Japan on February 26, 2011 and in North America on March 27, 2011.

3DS has a name most people will find familiar.
so whatevs.
i held off buying a DSi XL when i heard about this.
Nintendo Corporation Three Dimensional Dual Screen Electronic Video Gaming Machine.

Im going to buy a NCTDDSEVGM the day it launches.

I honestly don't know, but it'll be interesting to see what they come up with, much like Natal and what Sony did with the Move.
I'm sort of assuming it will be the 3DS, since they want to keep the DS branding. The logo will reflect the 3D-ness, and the box will emphasize it more. Otherwise, the average passerby would just write it off as another DS iteration, like the Lite or the XL.

I really don't care for any of these new "gimmicks" that Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo is coming out with. Personally, I prefer just a controller wired to a console, with no motion capture mumbo jumbo.

Do you realise how much easier my life would be if all my controllers were wireless? I could completely re-orient my Nintendo cabinet, I could keep them all in one basket (as opposed to the basket, cubby hole, chest and drawer that I have to use now) and I wouldn't have to worry about them getting tangled up any more.
Even if you only care about one of these things, you have to admit that wireless controllers are pants.
Most people still don't get Nintendo's naming policy.
The name has to be short, simple and iconographic. It CANNOT sound videogame-y or nerdy in any way - it must not be frightening and intimidating. And most important of all: It must be easily pronouncable for people of all languages(!) and age groups!
That is why GameBoy and Revolution had to go and will never, ever return. And that is why "Wii" was such a brilliant, masterful idea - marketing-wise.
3DS works.
Shows it's the successor to the DS, that it's 3D and doesn't necessarily mean it has two screens.
" I hope they stick with 3DS. But considering most people wanted them to stick with Revolution, I doubt it'll stay that way. "They stuck with DS. It was code for "Developers Screens" wasn't it? I think they want to keep the DS name and the 3 for 3D fits in nicely. I really believe that it will stick. I assume 3DS will just come out as 3D System. Works for me.
DS III or DS 'insert wacky nonsensical name' (like icon, Phobos, strike, etc.) would be better. I'm in the same boat as the one person (can't recall name sorry) from one of the email sections of a recent podcast, I'm so used to hearing 3ds for 3dStudio Max that I think if that Nintendo keeps 3ds for their 3rd ds will just get really confusing for some people online if they don't put Nintendo in the search.
