I am looking to buy a DS but I was wondering if I should get the DSi or the Dsi XL.
Or should I wait for the DS 2? Thanks.

The Nintendo DS is a handheld featuring two screens, one of which is a resistive touchscreen. Four different models are available: the original DS, the DS Lite, the DSi, the DSi XL.
Which should I buy? DSi or DSi XL?
" @FluxWaveZ: unconfirmed my friend. don't chase ghosts and shadows. personally i'd go with the XL "I'm not, but it's eventually coming and you can't deny that. The XL will cost a ton of money compared to what you could get a DS Lite for, so I would suggest that if you must absolutely get a DS, go with the Lite.
Depends on your size, but I'd go with the regular DSi seeing as the resolution nor the hardware justifies the bigger screen. As for the DS2, even though Nintendo makes solid products, their iterative portable hardware process has shown that earlier adopters get screwed.
" @FluxWaveZ: absolutely coming out but for now it's rumour, we know nothing about it, nintendo have said nothing. could be coming december 2012 for all we know. deffinately coming, but for now it's a shadow. "So will it be worth picking up a DS now or is it too late?
I would opt for the DS XL if genuine portability isn't an issue. I've had some ample time with it and think it's great.
The current DS2 rumours are all true imo, but I wouldn't let that put you off getting a DS now, The new handheld will most likely arrive in the West in mid 2011.
Get a DSi XL and enjoy a ton of great games now.
I got an XL recently after my Lite finally gave up and I really like it. It's still portable enough to carry around, but if you're like me and primarily playing at home anyway than the bigger size is much better. I also really like the pen stylus. Much better than the regular DSi, in my opinion.
If you can get a shot with the XL first it might help you. Personally if I was getting a DSi then I would look at an XL since Ive not used my DS outside very much and it fits my hands perfectly and works (unexpectadly). You might find you dont like the weight (which isnt much more), or the size etc. For the slightly price increase id say its worth it if you like the size, personally I do.
" Wouldnt the bigger screen mean stretched out games? "Yes, the resolution stays the same blown up on the bigger screens so certain games probably appear more pixelated and stuff and certain games probably have some touch screen control issues. For example, I've heard playing Rhythm Heaven on the DSi XL can be a pain at times because you need to cover a larger area with your stylus swipe so that it responds sometimes.
Dont get either, if you really wanna play DS games, get the DS Lite. There is really no point in shelling out the extra money for the DSi or DSi XL. If you wanna wait for the DS2, be my guest, but considering it hasnt even been announced yet, and Nintendo just released the DSi XL, you will probably be waiting a long time until you will be able to get it.
Huh, this seems kinda apt since the recent 3ds announcement.
The release is expected to be about a year from now looking at the releases for DS lite, DSi, and DSixl.
I'd recommend (as everyone here suggests) checking the dsixl before buying. It is bigger and imo better, but some prefer the more compact size.
I'm also debating on getting a DSi XL to replace my DSLite.
But I feel kinda dirty. I mean...We made a DS Lite so that the system is more portable......yet now we're trying to make systems so that they're bigger? Same thing happened with the iPad. Are we now just trying to make systems as big as we can for portable units? Lol. Remember the GBMicro? I'm not saying DSi XL isn't appealing, I'm thinking about getting one, but I can't help but feel strange about the size increase as the major benefit for a portable system.
I do most of my DS gaming on commute to college, but I don't know how much I'll be playing it in the summer. Should probably focus more on console gaming then since I completely ignore it during school. Hmm. Maybe I'll just wait for the 3DS. Its Pokemon that's really doing it for me. Seems like a great game I'd love to play, but I'd love to play it even more on a bigger and brighter screen :D. Oh man, damn you Nintendo for your marketing.

"Heres the best advice I can give you; Go to a store that is demoing the DSiXL, and if you aren't immediately blown away by the screens (first thing I saw was the opening Lugia animation on Soul Silver) then don't buy it. I was blown away, so I did buy it.
" well do you want value for money or a complete value for money? "You must have been drunk again, so I fixed it for you :/
I saw the XL for the first time yesterday and the screens are awesome. However, I will probably wait a couple months before indulging.

Fixed it even more. Really, the price increase isn't really that worth it. Over the Lite especially.
I'm trying to decide whether i should get an XL or wait a while.

Everything is relative. Is the XL really worth the price? Probably not. We all rationalise our purchasing decisions to suit the outcome. I just want one. Still, it does make me wonder how big the 3DS screens will be. As it is, I am not expecting to get one before E3 anyway, so I leave the possibility of not getting the XL open. But damn, I just want one.
