Here's a new (non-gameplay) trailer.

I'm more disappointed in the additional info to the video however; "coming exclusively to the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch in July". I have an iPhone myself, and I can barely stand playing anything on it. Was really hoping for a PC / console release, but oh well.

Well that sucks, since when have PopCap not released their games on PC =/

but in app purchases have shown to be vastly more profitable than just a one off fee. also takes away the need to pirate a game if its free.so you can't really blame devs for this.

Ouch... that's not going to go down well. I have no doubt that it will hit other platforms eventually, but that's hard not to take as a big middle finger. Especially since the very subtitle of the game is a joke about how long fans have been waiting.

Edit: I'm also disappointed that this is what everybody's going to take from that trailer, since the rest of it was extremely enjoyable.

I would of that that this would be a shoe-in on next-Gen download. They already said that they're commited to supporting F2P.

Would it be "sidegrades and cosmetic upgrades" free to play or "pay us over and over to make the game fun" free to play? My hopes are on the former but my money is on the latter. Shame though, the first game was a classic.

I would guess there's a timer that you can wait out, or pay to remove. Like, "play 5 levels per day"-sort of stuff. My disappointment knows no bounds.

I don't like the much more cartoony art style in this at all.

@deegee: It looks exactly like the original game but not 2 dimensional, if anything the characters in the trailer look slightly more grounded than in the first (though considering what this shows I'm not sure we can take much from this video yet anyway)

@eidderf: The IGN article in the first post has a bunch of screenshots showing the game.

@deegee: Oh sorry, I didn't see that, though I can't see a dramatic difference if I'm honest, the art looks a little smoother and colours have more sort of hard shading but it's pretty similar. Honestly seeing those I'm a bit disappointed that it didn't have more in common visually with the trailer, looks like more of the same to me at least.

Brilliant trailer. Now I need to finish the original. Sucks for those without an iPad.

Almost every thing about this bums me out so damn hard. Definitely killed my interest in the game. Didn't think that was possible.

Still holding out hope for a vita or pc version.

That's a shame. Having put 164 hours into the original (i love me some vase breaker) it's sad that I'll be skipping the second one completely.

Don't like free to play, don't like the new art style and i don't like playing games on my iphone. It's my understanding PVZ sold very well. Clearly they think they can make a lot more from f2p. Just a shame they can't make the f2p game a spin off and just give me a proper sequel.

Eye'd the wikipedia site of PvZ and spotted this..."Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time was announced for July 2013 as a free-to-play title, and will be a time-limited exclusive title for iOS systems before moving to other systems." Not surprising, since the first one was released for PCs first, which I admittedly only learned now and always thought it first game to iOS devices...
