Great news all, sony release 3.56 and word on the street is it will be some time before hackers are able to circumvent the added security.
here's hoping sony removes all cheated trophies and bans mac addresses of people who installed any type of cfw

3.56 released, hackers upset
Great! Now I can spend time updating my PS3 when I go home this weekend!
While I may be kidding, it's only a matter of time before the hackers get around this. 'Tis quite sad.
" Great! Now I can spend time updating my PS3 when I go home this weekend! While I may be kidding, it's only a matter of time before the hackers get around this. 'Tis quite sad. "Yeah, I think we can look forward to more frequent system updates thanks to these hackers. Hurray!
This is a fight Sony can't win. I don't envy them having to ship out updates now like every 2 weeks or something to keep down the piracy.
Apparently they have..." Dude, word is out that they have already cracked it. "

So much for the security update.
My guess would be that this is less about them being bored, and more about it being really easy." Wow, less than 24 hours then. These hackers must really be bored. "
looks like there was More security features in 3.56. atleast they added more then just changing the Key. I guess this will make it easy to detect homebew and stuff and heep it off PSN.
its only a metter of time now before ban hammers start dropping and the offical playstation forums flood with threads from people who "lent there ps3 to a freind last week and now cant connect to PSN. WTF SONY FIX THIS SHIT".

Mathieulh just posted about it on IRC.
Essentially Sony can now remotely execute code on the PS3 as soon as you connect. This can do whatever Sony wants it to do such as verifying system files or searching for homebrew. Sony can change the code and add new detection methods without any firmware updates and as the code executes remotely there is no reliable way to forge the replies.
Whilst it is possible to patch or remove this code from the firmware this will likely mean the end of playing CFW online (as PSN can just check before login that this is active) or at the very least mean it will be even easier for Sony to detect and ban users.
Judging from the fact that people can still connect using the proxy method it seems Sony hasn't activated any of this yet but the functions are there in the new firmware.

Sony can't change the signing key with firmware, it's stored on a non-volatile ROM chip in your PS3. Unless Sony sends someone to your house to crack open your PS3, you will be able to run any unsigned code by using their key and faking a signature to make it look authentic to your PS3. That's how the hackers were able to release a "patch" to Sony's patch so quickly.
" Being a hacker really needs a better career path, that leads to jobs where they use their skill to stop hacking. "Breaking/modifying something is easier than making it from scratch. Would be interesting to see how effective the hackers are at doing something useful though.
" @MooseyMcMan said:Well the hackers and sony, and the two of them being locked in a battle into the forseeable future. It takes two in this case, and sadly legitimate consumers get stuck with another update as a result." Great! Now I can spend time updating my PS3 when I go home this weekend! " Sadly, the hackers will always find a way. To be honest, I'm surprised it took this long. "Took this long for what? The 3.56 CFW was available only a few days after the OFW was released. That's not long at all.

" Trophies are poorly implemented to the PS3 system and online, who gives a fuck if somebody cheats them. Does anybody even compare trophies with their friends? Waiting for trophy sync operation...zzz! "I know what you mean. I completely abandoned comparing trophies because my GOD it's annoying to go through all those menus and have to sync every single time you look at your own or others trophies.
" sigh looks like I'll never see a hacker free BLOPS lobby ever again. "That's your own fault for buying BLOPS.
As an actual "hacker" (as in, somebody who works on these hacked consoles, not just a user who downloads them off a website and says "LOL I IZ HACKA!"), this firmware update isn't a big concern. If you've been observing the hacking community for some time, you know that staying offline after each patch is important, just like how for pirates, pirating a game that just came out and then playing it is incredibly dangerous, as the wave may have been updated or such.
Give it some time, and we'll have an update available. All that's needed to circumvent this new update from Sony is a way to feed the PS3 false information.
Also, I'd like to correct some of the users here, since they seem to have a rather ignorant opinion on hackers:
Hacking allows us to install Linux, like we were allowed too back when the PS3 came out. It allows us to customize the PS3 how we want, allows us to watch movies in formats not supported (see: MKV for my anime), etc. The general hacker is NOT FUCKING WITH GAMES. You're doing what Fox News does when it claims all Muslims are evil because the extremists want to hurt people. You and I both know that this is not the case.
