PS3 out of all the three consoles is the best media device. With music, video and pics easy to find on a menu it is a important feature. But do we actually use it that way?Post what you do with every media part of the XMB.
Pictures: Got like 20 background images that i use as a custom XMB (Got a pic of it if you want to).
Videos: I got 3 episodes of CO-OP in HD.Looks nice.Good to show fellow gamer guests.
Music: Got nothing important.I have a episode or two of the Bombcast and LISTEN UP! but thats all of it.

The PlayStation 3 (often abbreviated PS3) is the third home video game console created and released by Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.
How many of you ACTUALLY use it as a media device?
The only videos I have are the Heavenly Sword and Dead Space episodes which I rewatch from time to time. I have a bunch of TOOL albums in my music section that I used when playing Super Stardust HD, but it pisses me off that Sony hasn't added the feature that allows the user to play their songs while playing any game.
I would if I had one, since I don't have an HDD player for my 360. Most stuff looks pretty bad on a big TV anyway unless I'm watching it on Netflix.
I only own one game for PS3 , its Little Big Planet. However I turn on my PS3 more than my 360 because of the media. I download lots of movies and copy them over to the PS3. I also use the web browser a lot since I tend to leave my laptop at work most of the time. I game more on the xbox for the sole reason of gamerpoints and online play.
I use it as a connection to my media server on the PC. So my ps3 can play MP3s from my PC, though I also have digital out on my PC to the receiver. So it's just if I want to see a visualizer or if I need to see video from another source while playing the music that decides how I run it. I copied some albums from my PC to the PS3 though.
And of course as a bluray and upscaling DVD player via HDMI.
Oh hell yeah, probably the nicest UI of any media system I've used before, and I adore the "Earth" visualizer while playing music.
- Pictures - a few images of gaming displays me and my psn friends have traded. A couple high res backgrounds I've taken from my pc and such. Also have about 20 themes I flop between. Mostly its the Calvin and Hobbes theme :)
- Videos - pretty much full. I have the Final Fantasy and Zelda retrospectives from gametrailers on there, tons of movie trailers, and this awesome feature where you're pretty much skydiving with a 1080p camera mounted on this guys head, along with a thing to record ihs audible heartbeat. Absolutley amazing.
- Music - tons of stuff here also. about 12gigs worth. From Jack Johnson, Chingy, Missy Eliot, Eminem, Lupe Fiasco, Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Coldplay, Kid Rock, The Eagles, Kanses, Frank Sinatra, etc. It's hooked up to a nice set of Kenwood trip7s (relics of a year gone by), so we fire up the bbq, open up the windows, and turn up the sound now that summer is here.
once opon a time i used it for EVERYTHING i had all my music on it and riped my dvds and put them on there (compressed ofcorse) i used play TV in order to get tv used it as a dvd player a blu ray player and of corse games. gut as i got more and more games off the psn and more and more games needed to be installed all my music has come off it and i only have a few videos and a cupple of pics i still watch tv on it but reseptions gone really bad lately due to next door planting trees <rant>thats right PLANTING TREES there gardens bloody no bigger than my room and there planting trees ¬_¬ </rant>anyway its still my only blu ray player and ive gave all other dvd players away and i also use it to play ps2 games
some times, but not often i mostly use it for blurays i dont really play too many games on it. Though i like watching blurays on it.
Mostly games, but I do have some music ripped onto there, mostly for when I get bored of hearing some Japanese guy scream 'IN-DEST-RUC-TIBLE!' for the thousandth time. Also use it as a blu-ray and DVD player, and it's the only thing hooked up to the 5.1 currently.
I always rent movies from the Video Store on the PSN, I love that feature. And I pay for blu-ray service in my netflix so I use those in my PS3. I love that huge black box. Not to mention I play a shit ton of games on the thing.
I use it as a streaming media device pretty much daily along side the PS3 Media Server application; www.ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com
Don't rent videos from PSN, download trailers occasionally from PSN. Also use it for Blu-Ray and DVD as well.
Apart from vinyl, my PS3 does all the media in my house. Games, DVDs, Blu-Rays, streamed audio and video from my PC etc.
I use Nero MediaHome and it works like a charm.
Due to buying games on the PSN, I keep all my media files on my PC, just to be sure I have enough space on my hard drive.
been thinking about installing Linux on it, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
BTW: this is my first post on GiantBomb.com. Hello people!
I actually use my computer more as a media device these days, but in the rare event of a blu-ray movie being played it'll happen on my PS3. I haven't bought a single blu-ray this year though. I sometimes stream a movie from my server to my PS3 since the 360 doesn't support the most common of media files, but most my PS3 use is rooted in games.
various movie downloads, 1 pic a friend sent me and just about my entire music collection, i used the internet a fair bit when im not on the computer, have 3 shelves filled with about 30 blu-rays, only have about 7 games and own hundreds of dvd's... i use it far more as a media centre than a game machine

Sony got cocky with the ps3, they tried to bill it as a media device with the blu ray technology and all it did was make the console cost too much and look to chuncky for the average person to find it attractive, you can bet if sony comes out with another console it will be a lot cheaper and much more Wii-like.
I have my pc for all that soo no, problem is most ppl I know who bought the PS3 already had all that (music, videos whatevs) on their pc , and we're to lazy to switch.
Hells yeah I keep all my phaggiest nastiest snuff kill porn on my ps3. I only put the softcore pussy shit on my 360.
I use my X360 for it more than my PS3. My PS3 I use mostly to stream music, since it seems to support more codecs than my X360. Never video though, that's always my X360.
That Ghostbusters blu-ray being released on June 16th is very, very happy that I have a PS3.
I watch tons of movies on it.
I used to use it as a media server, and it was great. Then I woke up one morning and my computer and PS3 couldn't see each other anymore, even though they were still on the same network. It's been dark days ever since then.
I have a separate DVD/DVR, but I use my PS3 as my primary DVD player anyway. I also stream stuff from my PC through it. But I don't use it for music. I prefer my Xbox 360 for music since it works better with my Ipod.

I pretty much only use my PS3 for blu-rays, i hardly play any games on it anymore.
My 360 is my gaming device, my Ps3 is my media device.
The funny thing is... I do everything with my PS3 but play games on it, which is kind of sad, considering that's why I bought it. I've played MGS4 too death, and there was nothing else I really wanted to play after that. Now with games like Infamous on shelves, I can start buying games for it... though now it's just a matter of me being broke. =(
But yeah, I have tons of music, pictures and watch many blurays on my PS3.
