I'm a little confused on the different model types. I want one that is backwards compatible. I don't need the biggest hard drive or anything. I hear that the older like 60gb launch ones ARE PS1/PS2 backwards compatible. Do any of you dudes out there have an older one, and can you confirm that I CAN play my shitty old copy of Balder's Gate: Dark Alliance?

I have a launch model and it plays anything, so if you find that, you should be set for some Balder's Gate...

Yeah, I was looking on the E-bay, and you can still get the older models on there. Do any of you have a newer one? What's the backwards compatibly like on that?

I dont think the ps3 is a good buy at this point. For me having a ps3/360 almost every multiplait is better on the 360. LBP sucked IMO, and resistance2 is a renter. I hardly ever use my ps3 except for blu ray, if you dont already have a 360 get that instead, its just more fun as a gaming system in every way.

Yep. I have a 60GB model made in April 2007.

I really wish Sony would just break down and release an update for all of the newer models that would integrate software emulation for playing PS2 games. I know it's possible for them to do this so I don't really understand why they don't. It would certainly make the decision to buy a PS3 a much more sound one for those of us that already have a decent sized library of PS2 games but an old PS2 console that's on the down and out.

The launch PS3 60GB are still the best models. If you can find that, then get it.
