Depends on software. As an evolution to dual-stick action games: fuck no -- sadly.
Perhaps if each wand contained an analog thumbstick and trigger, with digital shoulder and (4) face buttons (like each hand does with current game controllers) in addition to the accelerometer/angular-rate-sensor/infrared-camera combination... but Sony declined to make this design decision.
Meh.
For me, it seems to much like the Wii remote. It has the potiential to make some fun games, but even in something where you have a sword and shield, unlike the Wii, this might actually capture the feeling, instead of just feeling like a moron swinging your arms around, but I'd prefer to still be using a controller.
Natal has exactly the same problem. While it has the potiential to create some very interesting stuff.. we know they're only doing this to sucker the casual aduiance away from the Wii. If you beleive that either Microsoft or Sony are doing this for the "core" gaming fans, you're delusional. Personally, I don't mind them branching out, as long as they don't lose their focus on the serious games. But I definitely understand that these things aren't intended to please me.

I don't care for any of the motion controllers, thats not how i want to relax and play my games. But there are people who love this stuff, so more power to them.

" I don't care for any of the motion controllers, thats not how i want to relax and play my games. But there are people who love this stuff, so more power to them. "There is that capability if the controller is aimed (by tilting wrist) like a Wii remote instead of a camera tracking the physical movement of a glowing ball that requires both my wrist and forearm (perhaps even shoulder) to manipulate. The videos confirm this. It is the nature of camera at TV versus camera at hand. Unless the accelerometer/angular-rate-sensor (essentially the wii motion plus addon) combo has better capabilities than shown in the FPS portion of the E3'09 demo.
Considering 90% of games that are actually GOOD on the Wii barely or don't use the motion controls at all...
Meh.
If some of the good games on wii are made better with the more powerful machine, then yay. And if it improves some games which are not on the wii but on the PS3 (like resident evil 5) then I think it will definitly be a yay.
The only downside will be if it costs a stupid amount of money, it needs to be at most Wiimote price, else it will be a nay.
Meh. The technology looks awesome, but so far I haven't seen anything spectacular with the way actual games use it. Until I see an actual game do something with it that makes me say "Awesome, I want to play that game like that", I'm remaining cautious with my enthusiasm for it.
Untrue. Many, if not most use the pointing function, which is considered "motion control" even though it's not technically so. I mean you do aim with your wrist... but that's no more 'motion' than moving one's thumb on a stick." Considering 90% of games that are actually GOOD on the Wii barely or don't use the motion controls at all... Meh. "
I dunno man, I sort of think motion controllers are just gimics. I know Nintendo made a lot of money selling their systems, but I think that's really a different audience and direction than where Sony and MS are going.
I once watched my sister play that warioware game with so much enthusiasm that it made me ashamed of my love for videogames...
all of this motion control stuff is really, really lost on me... If i wanted to swing about a fake sword id go LARPing
edit...actually I'd just make a fake sword and swing it abotu my house...probably much more fun
and also in all games where i'm given the option to switch off motion controls for the sixaxis (ratchet, heavenly sword) I do so in an instant
flower and flow work though, but thats only because of their lack of "gameyness"
nay. Not just for the PS3, this goes for all motion controllers. (or natal)
I just want to play my games with my controller goddammit.
I will only ever pull and waggle on one wand and the only damn accessory, I need is a rag or some baby oil.
TBF Natal will probably only be used for stuff like head tracking, as far as the usual action games go, while the same thumbstick controls remain. For a while at least. Imagine tilting your head/torso slightly to the side to peek around corners -- something usually done with one of the many extra keyboard keys on PC, and completely left out of the console versions of COD." nay. Not just for the PS3, this goes for all motion controllers. (or natal) I just want to play my games with my controller goddammit. "
Wait, are people comparing this to Natal?
Why on earth would you do that? I mean, two completely different things o.O
Just look at them for like 30 seconds and you would see it.
Oh well, to jump off the Sony Hate-wagon,
Yay I say..
I'm very under excited for both the Natal and the Sony Motion controller but of the two I would prefer the Sony one, only because I still want that tactile feel of something in my hands. Just not into the flailing around in games just like when the Eye Toy came out. IF Microsoft was to put a controller with the Natal than maybe I'd be more into that one, but honestly it would probably make them so similar between the two that it wouldn't matter.
IGN SEZ:" @Lowbrow said:
Even Hustle Kings and Motion Party? "" All upcoming motion controls are meh for me. "
It's interesting not exactly necessary. It's been done before so what niche is this meant to fill? And damn it Sony, I've spent enough money as it is!
it's meh, when i play video games i want to be sitting back not up swinging my arms around. i tried playing flower one time while laying down, i said screw this game as i kept on moving up in the air. i played something else because i didn't want to sit up. i hope that it flops so i don't have to use motion controls to play video games.
Meh, just a gimmick to copy the wii. Unfortunetly real gamers doesn't really care, it would only appeal to casual gamers.
It's also used for resident evil 5 alternate edition or whatever it's called. If they implement that with more fps games it might be good. Then again I should just buy that frag fx mouse controller if I even want better aim since the dual shock 3 is horrible at aiming.
I'm actually excited by the potential of Natal although I'm not confident that potential will ever be realized. Sony's motion controller is very much a "me too" product. The recent addition of the button after insisting they absolutely did not want a button on the thing is further proof.
It seems a lot cooler to me than Natal does, I'm a lot more interested.
I really don't care about any of those until they decide to show more, or it comes out. Sony showed better at E3 than Natal did IMO.
But the motion stuff is like DS touch and 3D, it's just sort of gimmicky to me. I was all for the DS touch, and I still like it generally, but most of the time I prefer button presses. There is too much room for error.
But I dunno, guess we'll see.
Why are people going nuts about head tracking? :/
"IF YOU TURN YOUR HEAD IN FORZA/GRAN TURISMO - YOU LOOK OUT THE WINDOWS!"
Yup - and then you aint looking at the damn screen are you- dumbass
Head tracking can simply give a better 3D effect, like looking out a window, since the view can adjust depending on your position." Why are people going nuts about head tracking? :/ "IF YOU TURN YOUR HEAD IN FORZA/GRAN TURISMO - YOU LOOK OUT THE WINDOWS!" Yup - and then you aint looking at the damn screen are you- dumbass "
Right now I say go for it. If it sucks it won't effect me in the slightest. If it's fun, I'll pick up both Natal and Sony Motion Control. I'll see when it releases, dependent entirely on the games and how the play.
It's up to the devs to make good games for it. So I think the potential is there in spades, and people only seeing this as a Mii2 situation are being far too cynical and quite shortsighted. Both Natal and SMC have functionality that the Wii does not. And if given the chance (read: wether you like it or not) those functions will be exploited to benefit gaming as a whole. So buck up. No one's gonna cancel controller-based games over this.
People making games for the Wii are making games for a different market than us. Devs that will try their hand at motion control/camera tracking for us will most likely have a different view of what that should be. And I, as someone who likes seeing this industry take risks, want to see where this goes before I damn the whole idea s a failure or a waste of time.
If all they do is copy mini-games from the Wii and slap them onto PS3 and 360, then of course we'll all crap on them plenty when that happens. But right now I see no cause for such negativity about these projects.
Yay!
The latter isn't happening as No More Heroes is done as a franchise for the time being (most likely this whole generation). The former, well, it's Ubisoft. As soon as they see a worthy install base they'll probably announce something like that, if not a port of the first game." It will get a Yay from me when HD sequels of games like Red Steel 2 and No More Heroes 2 get announced for it. "
The controller itself? Absolutely. I think it has a ton of potential.
Shoehorning that control system into games that weren't designed for it? Not interested.
If Sony ship this thing without bundling in a face-meltingly good game, specifically designed with the Wand in mind, then the whole thing will be a non-starter. Hoping people pick it up in dribs and drabs for the odd game here and there will simply not work, because there won't be a large enough install base to warrant further game development for it. They need to come up with their own Wii Sports equivalent* and then subsidise it to get it into as many homes as possible in as short a time as possible.
*As in, the defining game for the controller which everybody owns - not necessarily a rip off of Wii Sports.
