Looking at various other forum post, it looks like this will be a PS4 (new Playstation) announcement. Like Brad mentioned on TNT, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony announced some type of new controller and console chassis. I remember they did the same with the PS3 and people rebelling against the boomerang controller. I was relieved when they didn't launch with that ugly gray finish and remember shit talking it to no end. This is probably a page from the same playbook.
The Verge just posted further speculation on a touch based controller in the form of the dualshock.
If Sony were going to make drastic changes to the design it would make sense to announce early to test the waters. It starts the hype machine ahead of MS and if the community rebels it gives them some time to make a course adjustment. With a large company like Sony I wouldn't be surprised if they had more than one design team working on competing designs. Besides all the obvious speculation about the hardware, I wonder if Sony will have enough balls to announcement a ship date and price at this meeting. They probably haven't started manufacturing the consoles yet so it would be pining them down to a hard deadline. I bet they won't and wait until E3 to reveal those details and this meeting will be an anti-climax.
