Pokemon Unova All-Stars Tournament

Welcome, Pokemon Trainers, to the first Giant Bomb-Android Chocobo Tournament. We’ll be gathering the best Trainers from across the world in the Giant Bomb Community to duke it out with their Pokemon, VODs of which will be hosted on the Android Chocobo YouTube channel (hopefully). 

Rules:

No Legendaries

Level 50 Battles (This is an option in WiFi battles, you don’t have to limit yourself to Level 50 ‘mon.

The Giant Bomb-Android Chocobo Unova All-Stars Tournament will take place on the 2 and 3 of April at 6PM GMT. 

How do I enter?

Post right here with your Friend Code, and be in the tinychat http://tinychat.com/gbacpokemon on the day of the tournament for further instructions.

I also ask that you save your battle videos in the VS. Recorder so that I can download them and stick them on the YouTube channel.

A few questions though, is it VGC 11 rules? Basically, it’s what you said already (Unova, no Legends, level 50) but goes into more detail. VGC is 4v4 doubles, and “legendaries” only means Victini, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Keldo, Meloetta, and Genesect.  
 
If we aren’t playing VGC, are we playing singles or doubles, how many Pokémon do we use, and what do you define as legendary?    

Pretty much VGC, but 3v3 singles since this is just gonna be a beginner tournament type thing. Nobody's used to the Pokemon yet, and to be honest I'm not used to arranging tournaments yet, so these rules seem good. 
 
Open to other opinions though. If everyone wants 4v4 doubles, then that's what we'll do.

I’d like doubles, just because VGC is what Nintendo uses for official tournaments. It also is more reliant on strategy than just match ups.
If you need help setting up the tournament I’d be more than happy to help. I’ve been involved in multiple weekly VGC tourneys since January.

I'm not a big fan of double battles...why not just do some regular 1 on 1 battles for the tourney?

I'd join a community tournament if I could compete with my Gen I's.  Maybe just restrict moves that can't be learned by a specific Pokemon in Gen V. Seismic toss for example can't be taught by TM anymore in Gen V, so only Pokemon that have learned seismic toss by level up or breeding should be tournament legal. I think Pokemon from all games, as long as they fit the gen V move sets, should be fair game. 

I would love to mess around and play in a tournament, but I am a total noob.  I do not EV/IV train at all, so could we have a casual/noob tournament bracket or something?  That would definitely attract me.  Saying all this, I have only acquired 2 badges, so I am a good bit away from being able to tournament. (But do have most my pokemon around level 20).

Looking forward to another one of these in the future. I'm really not ready to participate in a tourney yet.

I hope there's another one of these. My party is definitely not in a position to compete with anyone. I'm looking forward to hearing how it turns out, though.

No more Unova restriction, huh? Well then, now I’m unprepared. I guess I’ll make due with the VGC 11 mons I have lying around. As for the times you have listed, is it really going to be 2 days? Unless a dozen more people sign up I don’t see how this would last more than 2 hours.

Ugh. I'll get in on the next one. I'm too addicted to Guild Wars right now.

I hope nobody has fully EV'd teams yet...cause I haven't put in that time yet and am just gonna go with some story pokes (fingers crossed) XD

Just sorting out the challonge page. I'll link to it in the chat ten minutes before we start at 9PM GMT. For those outside of GMT zones, that's in about 5 hours.

By the way, the chat's gonna be open from now till the tournament so feel free to use it to get some practice matches in with each other.

Ha ha, yeah. Next time do doubles, it's a lot harder to win games without losing any HP.
