The a button on my ds doesn't work can everything be done with the touch screen and can there be multiple saves

There are never multiple saves in Pokemon games.

Lucky you, the interface has been updated with equivalents for the face buttons on the touch screen. No more pressing X to pull of the sub menus, you just tap the icon on the bottom screen. All dialogue choices are handled on the bottom screen as well, and there is an A button shortcut on the touch screen which will tell you what action you will perform when you tap it/press A.
