Yeah, got a BD burner in my desktop, strictly for the purpose of backing up optical media to my NAS and playing old games that aren't on gog. Black Dahlia, for instance.

Out of my 6 laptops I think one from 2010 has a dvd burner in it, but I also have a usb dvd reader in case I ever need to install software off optical media again. Actually had to use it recently to install some architectural CAD software.

I don't think I'll bother with it. Unless the battery in the thing lasts as long as the batteries in the controllers it's useless, the cable is not a real issue to me, and there's bound to be at least a little latency. I'll certainly not bother with the first revision of the thing.

So worth it to me. Love my Vive.

@fnrslvr: Not had any performance issues or bugs so far on PC. Not really interested in the multiplayer, but the single player campaign has been good so far.

Any 3.5mm jack headset should work with both. You'll need an adapter for the first revision xbox one controllers, but the new ones and the elite controller take regular ass 3.5mm audio jack.

As for recommendations, I own both the staff pick and the upgrade pick from the wirecutter roundup, and I wholeheartedly recommend both. One thing to keep in mind with the Sennheiser Game series headsets is they come in two flavours, there's the closed back Zero and the open backed One. The original Zero is much higher impedance, so if you're going with that one you probably want some kind of headphone amplifier, as most onboard audio can't really drive 150 ohms.

Positional audio with the Game One headset is great, it's super comfortable, fits over the vive well too.

@lunnington: I'd say waiting for alpha 3.0 would be good idea for an unfinished, that'll bring planetary surfaces and whatnot. I'd love to see running coverage of the releases, but I don't think there's that much interest.

@vaportra1l: The funniest thing to me about the change in scope of the game from the original pitch to now that is NEVER mentioned in any article about it is how they had a vote for the backers, and the backers voted to release later and make a different game. Never seen it mentioned, not once.
