Someone spent a lot of time editing between perspectives on this and I will say: your efforts are very much appreciated!
I played game last year with my friends and we couldn't get over how spooky, low budget, and inexplicably difficult this game was. We all looked up a guide to figure out what the fuck you're supposed to do (burn the dolls before the ghost eats you) but there's nothing in the game that really spells it outt, and even when you know what to do it's crazy hard. We call it the Kewpie Doll game and I think now that it's had an update it deserves a second pass.
My head cannon is that Nancy's parents are EXTREMELY rich and just set all of these situations up to entertain their daughter since like most billionaires they have 0 clue how the real world works. They even go so far as to kick all the residents out of towns and hire actors to play every character which is why they are, for the most part, totally unconvincing as people. To explain the inexplicably complex puzzles the parents sometimes go so far as to build entire "sets" to spin this wild narrative and to keep their little princess happy.
Yes! Sadly, Nancy is completely unaware of any of this and really believes she's an amazing detective solving real crimes and mysteries. Bess and George are in on it which is how they are able to provide clues.
woof that's even darker like shes in this world of make-believe that her parents constantly craft to keep her trapped.
Maybe when there's no mystery Nancy has some kind of terrible personality disorder that manifests itself so they need to keep her busy for as long as possible. That's why every mystery has her needing to wait until the middle of the night or a specific time of day to get more clues to space things out, to keep her busy longer. She needs to be kept constantly occupied with a steady trickle of clues she can think about in between eighteen hour naps or Dark Nancy comes out.
Loving this series. I looked up some of the bad endings for these games on the Nancy Drew Wiki and they're wild. In this one there are at least two ways each that Nancy can drown, asphyxiate, fall to hear death or straight up explode, and one in which she just burns down the whole forest. No "Nancy gets Hantavirus from mice" ending though, which is the one I was keeping my fingers crossed for.
A) Vinny is an MSPAINT prodigy, also I love that jeff reloads this gun after every fifth shot even though it holds like 40 bullets
B) Why were they so protective of this, even from nine year old perspective it looks pretty not great compared to arkham asylum, borderlands, uncharted 2
C) my god the "tilt your controller to do stuff" fad, what shit idea, can't believe Nintendo is still doing it
The smartest thing Magicka did that I wish all games like this would do is to totally remove the concept of mana. No waiting to recharge anything, just giant magic laser beams forever.
