Jeez, the term "quick look" is more strained than ever. Looking at the player bar, this video's gonna last like four whole years.

This video is 40 minutes long. That is on the low end of quick look length.

8 hours of play and never received a single squad command. Never heard a single voice in chat. Maps are pretty bland and same-y. The blimps and ships that come in and turn the tide for the losing team are obnoxious and kind of not worthwhile, and . . . all in all, it's actually probably * worse* than BF4, which I disliked so much, I stopped by about the 20th hour.

I play mostly with friends, so the first two sentences rarely applied to me. That being said, the very first game (and every subsequent game after) that I played solo there were at least two people chatting AND I was getting commands. It is also pretty common for people on the team to communicate general strategy over chat. That being as simple as "move the train to B." Point is it happens, and not uncommonly.

How are the blimps and ships not worthwhile when they can (as you said) potentially turn the tide for a team? That seems inherently contradictory. I think they are a fantastic addition to the game. They make one sided conquest matches much more interesting, and they are a large part of the strategy of operations - which is a new mode that I've only heard people enjoy.

Your complaint about the maps being bland and samey is ridiculous enough that it makes me question whether you actually played battlefield 1. Do I need to break out screenshots for you? There are wide open desert maps riddled with jutting rocks, desert villages, urban cities, Italian mountains, thick forests, bunkers, dirty trenches leading to a small village, a fort that you reach after storming several beaches, and on. In my short time playing I have seen how distinct map features change how teams compete for objectives. Seriously, what are you even on about with maps being bland and samey???

If you disliked BF4 so much (which is about the standard of what a modern battlefield plays like) I begin to wonder if you just have a dislike of the franchise and how they play. If you came into a negative mindset for this game I wouldn't be surprised that you left feeling justified. Self-fulfilling prophecies.

I haven't been excited for a nintendo console since the wii, and I was like 11 back then. It's really interesting how their target demographic seems to have aged with me. Maybe slightly older, but ballpark at least.

I'm starting to realize just how similar open worlds games are to each other, and yet I feel like I want this game. It's like a drug, I want my open world fix even though I don't really know why I want it.

On a whim I decide to log into uplay today and surprise surpise, ubisoft is giving this game away for free. Now there is no reason not to pick it up. Happy birthday ubisoft!

It was a Dave quicklook that brought me to this site. Back in 2011 I think.

I would also like to hear Dave Snider and Jeff Bakalar on a podcast together. Something about their voices.

I have fading memories of playing this for about 5 hours back in December of 2013. It has come far.
