" You go to gymnasium? That is pretty hilarious, what with that being the word for the uhh.. how do describe it without using the name... the indoor physical activity open area. I'm sure you know about that already though =P "
Yeah we reformative nations started to use the word gymnasium to describe our secondary schools sometime around Luther started nailing shit to doors.

This was a response to   The_Grindilow's answer. I'm sure I'll have more questions for the rest of you soon. Thank you all!

What are you studying (within history)? Are you working with primary or secondary sources? Where are you studying (if you don't mind me asking)? How are your professors and teachers?

And if I understood you correctly you mean that languages and literature is a discipline in history (I suppose it is but I want to extend further from that).

I read a lot and in ranging subjects (this last month: a biography on Wittgenstein and his thought, Milton's Paradise couplet, T. S. Eliot, Empire to give you a sample) to give you an idea of how "advanced" I am.

Also, since you are British. How much prestige does an Oxbridge degree hold? I might have a decent chance of going there with the right support from my relatives and I'm curious if it's worth it.

So, you're under the impression that chicks don't like getting drunk, getting told how beautiful they are and having a good time?I mean I've been with my girlfriend for nearly 8 years now, and still my entire sexual life is based around us having too much to drink and me paying her compliments on how beautiful she looks.  There is no negative moral character involved in any of this at all.I'm not telling him to go out and rape a chick...just find a chick that likes to party and show her you do too is all I'm saying. "
Wow that is depressing, you shouldn't have to complement her or get drunk together to have sex.

So I'll soon be done with gymnasium (which in Sweden amounts to high school) and I have no idea what I want to study. Languages, literature, philosophy, linguistics, history, political science, economy, sociology, theology are all equally interesting to me but I can't really decide what I find most interesting and what I want to dedicate myself to.

I'd like to hear from people who are currently working in these fields or have studied them and to tell me a bit about their studies, what their day looks like etc. If you don't feel comfortable talking to me here you can hit with me up a PM.

I understand that this might be the wrong forum (Giant Bomb) but I haven't really found another place where I can talk to people!

Cheers

I know many of you are confused or "dumfounded", perhaps even scared, by Cargo. I'm here to tell you that you shouldn't be and to help you understand the madness.
Now I haven't played this game yet but I'm familiar with Ice-Pick Lodge's (the developer) previous releases Pathologic and The Void. I could write about them but I'd wouldn't do a better job than the reporters at Rock, Paper, Shotgun (RPS) who have done an awesome job. Here are some links:

  • Site of the developer Ice-Pick Lodge –  http://www.ice-pick.com/index_eng.htm
  • Interview with Ice-Pick Lodge, by RPS – http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/02/03/rps-interviews-ice-pick-lodge/
  • A "review" of Cargo, by RPS –  http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/04/27/cargo-the-quest-for-gravity-review/
  • A "review" of Cargo, by RPS –  http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/09/29/wot-i-think-the-void/
  • Analysis / critic of Ice-Pick Lodge's first game Pathologic –  http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/04/10/butchering-pathologic-part-1-the-body/

Hopefully this will increase interest in an unkown, under-the-rader developer with great aspirations and ideas. If you've got any questions you should hit me up!

Hey

I suggest that a couple of examples are added to the wiki-page to illustrate what emergence within games really mean. For example: The systems in Far Cry 2 allows for un-expected situations such as you being interrupted while carrying out an assassination, there is a small skirmish and as a result a fire is started and your target notices and escapes.

What do you think? Do you have other suggestions?

Cheers
