I've decided to only do a top 5 instead of a top 10. I played more than 10 games this year, but not much, and many of them were started and abandoned. I wanted to focus on games I completed (or mostly completed in Borderland's case) and enjoyed.

Fez is probably my favorite game ever. I played it with no internet references (except for the damned clock puzzle) and it brought back the feeling of playing old Infocom games in my youth.
Never played original XCom, but loved this.
Disappointing, with an ending that in many ways spoiled the series for me. Still, every time I hear the theme music I get chills, and jumping back into Leviathan I realized what a solid experience it was, if a tragically flawed one.
I put 40 some hours into this solo and never finished. Still, that's 30 more hours than Borderlands 1, and it was a blast.
I think I enjoyed this more than GTA IV. Imperfect, disappointing ending, but a lot of fun.
I played a lot of PlanetSide back in the day. Wasn't particularly good at it, but I enjoyed it. I was in the beta for Planetside 2 and it didn't grab me. I checked back in a few days ago, though, and have watched large blocks of hours evaporate.
