Does anyone remember playing duke nukem as that 3D experience like 15 years ago? The one where you stood in a little area, and put on those massive goggles and you could look up and down in the game as if you were really there?  Was that a special version of duke nukem? or one of the main games?

@sodiumCyclops:   I built my computer last year, and its been doing just a bit better that my ps3 or xbox graphics wise.  It's a quad core 2.4ghz., 4 gigs of ram, and a 9500gt.  it cost me around 700 bucks last year, if you include the 22inch monitor.  So im sure you could build it now for WAY less money.  or you could get a better card, and have something that has even better graphics.  Its not hard to surpass the consoles these days.

@Evilsbane:  Ok, so.... I bought 2 sticks of ram, and that PSU.  The ram works great, and its nice to finally have 4gigs.  Haven't retried Trine, but borderlands is running a tad better, and the textures aren't loading onscreen hardly at all.  But as for the PSU... that one you suggested isn't going to work... not enough SATA connectors.  But oh well, I can wait for an exchange to come from newegg.

On a funny side note, my 64bit windows 7 was only using about 600-700 mb of ram before, and now that there is more, it uses an additional 70%!  I didnt really think that would happen, but I guess windows uses up all it can when it can.

@Subject2Change: I'm not doing it for Trine... infact, I dont particularly like the game.  I just noticed that it should have been running tons better than it was when I played it.  I just used it as an example.  But again, I'll post back my results after I install the new PSU and RAM.  I only ever mentioned it, because I have had this inkling that my crap stock PSU was at least part of the problem.  Whether I was right, yet remains to be seen.  Plus if I upgrade it, and have the spare change, I maybe might go for a bit better video card on down the road.  Batman arkham asylum was aching for a tad more power when I played it yesterday....

Thanks fellas.

@Evilsbane: your a lifesaver!

I think I'm just going to bite the bullit, and buy that PSU, and 2 more gigs of ram.  Give this thing a little one two punch!  But this will be the LAST upgrade on this tower for sure.  I just hope it'll last me for another year or so.

@Evilsbane:   Thanks for your honest answer.  I'm not running SLI, but I was thinking 400-450W so i dont have to go back later if i decide to upgrade my vid card again (doubtful on this rig).  Any recomendation?  I have just found this whole "looking fora PSU" kinda hard to do.  So many options, and so many names I've never heard of.

I know I would just need a standard ATX PSU, but I dont know where to start to be honest...

Well back in the day (when I bought this piece) I knew nothing of building PCs, and was very intimidated to say the least.  Obviously if I could, I would go back and make my own, but doing that now, and getting rid of this rig is not an option.

My OS is only taking up around 600MB of memory.  Computer hovers at about 700MB after startup is done...  But I dont deny that i need more, and better ram.

As for those reccomended specs, my computer IS about double the recommended.  And my drivers are always up to date.

Consensus so far seems to be I just need more ram...  Should I even worry about my PS?  And no, I wasn't looking to cheap out on a PSU, I've heard many a horror story related to cheap PSUs...

  So, I bought a Dell Inspiron 518 last year, because i needed... errr, wanted a computer that can do PC things, and something more stationary than my Macbook.  Its basically  the base components meaning, 2 1Gig sticks of ram, and a 250 Gig HD, but with an upgraded PCU to the core 2 Q6600.  I immediately put in a linksys wireless card, and found a modest video card in the 9500GT.  It ran WOW on max no prob (not that thats anything special nowadays), and has been very good for the few games I play on PC. Until Trine came around.
   From the first time I played that game, it never worked very well, unless I put the settings on medium to low.  My computer specs far succeed the recommended specs to play the game on full blast, and I have seen videos of people playing the game with 9500GTs, and it looks amazing for them.
  I have come to the conclusion, that I need a new PS.  The one I have is the stock 300W unit.  I am thinking of putting in some more ram when I can, but I can't get past this feeling that if I were to upgrade my PS to, oh say, 450W, things would run a bit smoother....

   What do you guys think??  My thought process is that, while my card can use the 300W PS as minimum spec, the extra wireless card may be draining just a bit more than i ever took into account, and may be robbing my video of a bit of power...  Or maybe that my PS is on the limit of what it can do...
