Totally solid advice all around. I really appreciate it, everyone!

I'll try practicing a bit more with my Zwei and a shield with my medium armor and see if I like the animations/DPS more than my regular Broadsword. And yes I admit I haven't tried any 2h Ultra Greatswords yet - I'll try those at end-game when my strength can handle it.

I have already respec'ed with Rosaria, so I don't have any more Pale Tongues to use (I think there may be one somewhere I haven't grabbed one).

Thanks again!

Today I tried a tank build by equipping a +5 Zwei (using it two-handed) and my strongest armor. Unfortunately I just passed the fat rolling threshold.

I'm playing as a knight. My level up points have evenly gone into HP, Stamina, Endurance, and Strength.

I tried this style (with roll dodging instead of blocking) for hours and was doing okay. After I got to a certain zone and getting my ass absolutely handed to me I switched to my previous build or medium armor, +5 Broadsword, and a shield.

Compared to the tank style I started crushing it and the same enemies were a breeze. It also seemed like the damage I was taking was somehow LESS than when I had the heavy armor on.

Any ideas on why my tank build wasn't as successful as my lighter build? I would love to be a big dumb tank for the endgame but I die and get hit so much and it just doesn't seem viable. I've seen people play other Souls games like this and it seems fun but it feels like I'm missing something critical.

...or maybe I just suck at fat rolling?

Appreciate the help.

@bvilleneuve: Yes, this feels spot-on to me. And also something communicated through the actual game itself instead of just cut-scenes or any "story" moments.

By the way I still haven't found a single audio log. I feel like I'm missing a lot of parts of this game even though I've already solved like 7 areas. Crazy.

@mellotronrules: Well I found the ending gameplay sequence in Braid to be pretty awesome in terms of an 11th hour revelation. So I guess in that regard I was assuming (and I am using that word loosely) that Witness had something at the end that added at least added a "wrinkle" to the vague understanding of what is happening or why I am present on the island. Not a Hollywood-type ending, no, but at least some form of minimal substance.

I agree that many games don't go out of their way to provide any catharsis or payoff at the end, but there are definitely a good number of games (Red Dead included) that do. Super Metroid and Final Fantasy VI come to mind immediately.

Oh wow. I thought the consensus was that it was disappointing, not infuriating. I guess I'll report back once I see it to share the hate.

This was lightly discussed on the Bombcast, but looks like I have double confirmation now.

No Caption Provided

At the end of the day, even though I haven't finished the game yet I can absolutely see how the "journey along the way" really is the sweetest and most satisfying part of the whole process. Which would be very apt for a Jonathan Blow game, as he tends to try to embed interpretive themes inside the actual gameplay itself and the story and setting elements either act as a red herring or simply add layers to the possible interpretations of the narrative.

Without a doubt The Witness has provided more genuinely exhilarating moments of epiphany and discovery than any game I can think of, and on a consistent basis, as well. So even if the ending is just the screen literally going to black and credits, I still would probably feel fantastic about the gaming experience as a whole.

Did I mention I fucking love this game??

@colonel_pockets: You know that was my exact problem for the longest time until I found a couple of great sites that alleviated that issue instantly.

If you don't mind random people picking you up for their raid, then using destinylfg.net to list yourself as looking for a group is your best bet. People usually respond to you quick and will either message you directly on the site or will invite you to their PSN party. The catch, though, is that you don't quite know what kind of people you'll be matched with (unfriendly, angry, teens/kids, etc.). Whenever I listed myself I always made it a point to say "Looking for friendly group" or "looking for chill adults." It helps weed out people you may not want to play with.

BUT, I just recently discovered the100.io - which is a place where you tell the site what kind of Destiny player you are and the kind of people you'd like to play with, and the site matches you up with like-minded and like-scheduled people. The first group that the site matched me with has been a dream. Everyone is incredibly nice, helpful, and chill. It has taken my love of playing Destiny and multiplied it 10x. I can't recommend it enough.

In fact, I am now a Sherpa for the King's Fall Normal Mode. I'm starting something called Normal Mode Mondays where I take newbies or loot seekers on the raid and going from start to finish (if possible). It's going to be a lot of fun.

Let me know if you sign up with a free account at The 100, and I will send you an invite to our group. Maybe you could join me on a future Monday evening!

@hestilllives19: This is the most straightforward and helpful info guide I've read that helps me understand the next steps to take. Wow. Truly in your debt.

It's funny that you emphasize a couple of things for PvE, and actually that's what I've been salivating to do the most recently - the King's Fall raid and getting together with folks to help with the Nightfall. I haven't completed either yet (got halfway through the raid, which was actually a hell of a lot of fun).

It wasn't until you said it and I started thinking about it that I now understand why Legendaries and Exotics are so crucial. It's not necessarily the stats they give (I've been scrapping 95% of mine because their light is way lower than the blues I have equipped) but the perks and bonuses they offer; and then it's simply a matter of feeding them other guns to get their light to where you want it.

It almost makes me want to start all over and cling to all the Legendaries and Exotics I threw away because their stats didn't impress me. But I've put in more than 50 hours at least into this character so I don't want to throw away all that "work."

Can't thank you enough for this. I'll be reading this daily to help me stay on track. Cheers!

@hestilllives19: Good Lord you guys must be 315+ light. I feel like a noob at my 292 and haven't completed the raid once yet. Do you find that the best possible gear really is in the raid, or did you score better armor/weapons doing quests or dailys?
