Best of 2010

As requested by the big dudes, here's a somewhat Best of 2010 list from me. It certainly wasn't easy to pick 10 games that were better than everything else released this year, but if someone had a gun put to my face this is probably what I'd pick.

Something to note is that didn't play some of the big releases this year, especially for the Wii. I didn't play games such as Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood or Call of Duty: Black Ops for example, so before you rage (if anyone would even care about my list) I can't really put games on the list that I didn't even play.

List items

  • Red Dead Redemption's single player was next to perfect in my experience. It was so good I had two friends that wanted to come over and watch me play it, just because it was *that* good. It really baffles my mind that Rockstar then focused so much energy on making the DLC almost only focus on the game's sub-par multiplayer.

  • I think I spent near a hundred hours in Just Cause 2. This was a game that took the term "sandbox" to a new level, with a map that was seriously mindblowingly big. This was the game that kept me entertained throughout the summer, and it deserves a second place on my list.

  • I was already a huge fan of the first game when I started to play this sequel, and maybe my expectations were a bit too high. The core gameplay and everything surrounding it didn't really differ too much, but in the end I truly enjoyed this release. Too bad they had to ruin the package with a lousy multiplayer mode and a co-op that was only online.

  • I'm guessing that anyone who played this will put it somewhere on their list this year. I can't really say much about it, other than it truly being a masterpiece. If there's anything to complain about it's the endless additions of DLC, which eventually made me loose interest, and also moving further away from RPG and more towards being Gears of War. Still, it's a well worthy fourth place this year.

  • The only game on this list which I still haven't completed by the time of writing, and I guess that's both a good and bad thing. Fallout: New Vegas took most of the good stuff from Fallout 3 and improved it, but sadly a lot of the jankyness followed with it. A very good game, just a shame I never seem to be able to complete it fully.

  • Almost two broken controllers later made me wonder when the last time was that a game honestly made me so involved with it, not to mention said game was a downloadable indie title. Super Meat Boy really brings out the best (and worst) in classic platform gaming, and boy did I enjoy it. And hate it.

  • You either love or hate Limbo, but for being a four hour long downloadable game to make it to my list is saying a lot. Truly remarkable graphics and atmosphere, and I can't wait to see what the team behind it will release next.

  • If I didn't include Civ 5 on my list I have two friends that would've murdered me. They still visit me every now and then just to play this game, which their computers can't handle. I've played through it myself a couple of times, and it's truly a brilliant strategy game.

  • A bit too short and a bit too shallow, but still beautiful and well worth playing through for the sake of having done so. Was pretty much done with it by the time DLC was being released for it, but one day I'll probably pick it up again.

  • I debated long in my mind wether I should include Final Fantasy XIII or not on my list, and eventually I thought that last place was a good place for this game. Too ambitious for its own good, I still had some great moments here and there. Just wish they improve for the upcoming additions to Final Fantasy.
