My Top 10 Games of 2014

Before getting to the good stuff I feel as if I should start on a more unhappy note.

IT'S MY MOST DISAPPOINTING GAME OF 2014.

My biggest issue with this game is with Kyrat itself, it's not a very interesting location to me. It's basically the same as Rook Island from FC3 but with a different climate and less interesting ruins. The two areas that are somewhat interesting are the Himalayas and Shangri-La. However, you only go to the Himalayas a handful of times and you go to Shangri-La once during the main storyline. You can go back, but only when you go out of your way to collect tapestry pieces which really don't get you anything. It's just one of many collectibles that are absolutely pointless.

My other issues with the game are the story and characters. Ajay Ghale is the most generic and uninteresting protagonist I have played as in a long time. Devoid of personality Ajay is tasked with helping the Golden Path overthrow Pagan Min, the tyrannical leader of Kyrat. Well actually he just does what he's told by either Amita or Sabal, the leaders of the rebel Golden Path faction. The choices you make as part of the storyline which is either siding with Sabal who favors tradition over doing anything progressive or Amita who wants to "modernize" Kyrat by turning it into a drug state. Every choice that's offered to you is equally terrible and made me question why I was even bothering to continue with the main story as everything seemed kind of useless.

The gameplay is basically identical to FC3, the only new addition is the grappling hook which makes it easier to traverse certain areas. Also as I was playing this on PC, I ran into many frame rate issues which seemed weird seeing as this game doesn't look THAT much better than FC3. I had to change most of my settings to medium and even turning some things down to low to even get this game to run at a stable frame rate, which was around 50 fps. Having a R9 280X which can run Crysis 3 at almost max settings at around the same 50 fps range, makes me think that Ubisoft had not optimized the game very well.

The combination of uninteresting characters, cobbled together storyline, and performance problems lead this game to be my front runner for most disappointing game of 2014.
