Whatever people think of Keanu's acting range, I think he's a decent guy. I also think that any exposure people get to Cowboy Bebop is good exposure...
But what I want to see, I guess, is more episodes of the Bebop... maybe before all of this stuff took place? I dunno. They would have to be really, really on target with Bebop in order to make me feel happy.
Seriously, though, the DB movie will be horribad, as will Cowboy Bebop. The only chance we've got is with Akira...and that's only because Leonardo DiCaprio and his awesome level of awesomeness are producing it.
I think too many people are deeply rooted in their fanboy ways to appreciate a live-action adaptation of an animated (not to mention, completely fictional) series.
No movie adaptation will ever live up to the original content which inspired it and people should realize this well before they come to a radical conclusion.
"LOL, seriously? You have that much respect for Dicaprio? I think he's ok, but wouldn't even think that because of him Akira was safe."
*ahem*
As an actor:
The Departed
The Aviator
Gangs of New York
The Basketball Diaries
What's Eating Gilbert Grape?
Catch Me If You Can
The Quick and The Dead
The Man in the Iron Mask
Blood Diamond
Yeah...that list looks PRRREEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTYYYYY damn good to me. = D And that's the majority of his films.
Also, his production company has picked up the rights to and is developing:
Atari - a biopic about Nolan Bushnell (in which he'll star as Nolan Bushnell)
Akira - rumored that Joseph Gordon Levitt will play Tetsuo
Ninja Scroll - in development
Brave New World - based on the classic Aldous Huxley novel, in development
Twilight Zone movies - he's a huge fan of the Rod Sterling era TZ, and he wants to make movies based on individual episodes
The list goes on and on.
DiCaprio's basically the shit. The only thing better than him is Robert De Niro.
So I think that DiCaprio will do a fine job of producing a live-action Akira movie.
And Bullet...I understand what you mean...but did you WATCH the Dragonball Evolution trailer? It's the very definition of pain. I hate anime in general, and especially DB, DBGT, and DBZ...but seriously, I would be PISSED OFF!!!
DiCaprio is awsome, anyways, Keanu was awsome in the Matrix. I just recently saw The Devil's Advocate, which is an awsome movie, but I also saw a Keanu in that movie who had terrible cheesey overacting. He's deff a hit or miss kind of guy, but I don't know if he has the right personality, or can show the right personality as Spike.
If you enjoy anime, then I highly recommend watching the series and movie. One of the best out there."
Enjoying anime doesn't affect my recommendation. It is good and I have no reservations in advocating that people see it. It's not even like other anime, so that shouldn't influence your decision unless you have an aversion to animation.

I don't know, if someone isn't into anime, they're probably not going to give it a chance you know what I'm saying.
