DeadlyCyclone: Best of 2010

List items

  • The follow-up that vastly improves and deepens the universe of Mass Effect. ME2 has a great story, awesome characters, and gameplay that is much more fluid than ME1.

  • Heavy Rain brought the PS3 a new form of video game, interactive novel. The game was brilliant, yet flawed, but deserves the praise it gets for its great plot.

  • The best way for Bungie to end their (immediate) involvement in the Halo series, Reach takes Halo to 2010 and brings great overall gameplay.

  • Rockstar does not fail to impress. RDR makes wild west games fun again with great gameplay, amazing voice-work, and characters that make you care.

  • Starcraft is back, and even better than ever. Back are the long gaming sessions, comp-stomps, and free-for-alls, and Blizzard is not done, two expansions are yet to come.

  • Although on a basic level AC:B is more of the same, Ubisoft found areas to improve the game over AC2. The combat has another layer of depth, and the story is fitting of any stand alone sequel.

  • Alan Wake, albeit years in the making, came out spectacular. The gameplay worked beautifully offering basic gameplay, with an added dimension with the inclusion of dodge. The story and narration was great, keeping even non-thriller game fans hooked to the end.

  • New Vegas does for the Fallout series what AC Brotherhood did for that series, brings more of the same, yet differentiates it enough to make the game fully worthwhile. New Vegas shines in its story and locations. It would come in higher on my list if it had less bugs and a few more great memorable locations.

  • Bad Company 2 improves greatly on BC1, and cements itself side-by-side with the Call of Duty franchise for top war shooters. CoD and BF can co-exist though, as they offer different perspectives on the genre overall.

  • Black Ops finally brought what I have been looking for in a CoD game, a good story and great multiplayer. The only other CoD game that I liked as much in both aspects was CoD 4. The story, albeit out there, is great, and the multiplayer is as fun as ever even with cold war weapons.
