@benpack: Did you ever play Flash Duel? I like Yomi as a hand management game, but for showing people a tabletop game that looks like a fighter with low barrier to entry, Flash Duel is pretty hard to beat, in terms of rules and $.

I'm always happy to hear board games be discussed. The market has gotten so deep, even the games made for kids are becoming just plain good games, rather than watered down distractions.

I bet you folks would dig Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective. The box comes with a map of London, a phone directory, a pile of newspapers, and 10 cases to solve. So the entire game is reading passages from the case book, and figuring out where in London to gather information on the crime. Super cool, incredibly simple rules, and I'm REALLY bad at it. I've only played it as a solo experience (which is really relaxing) and with one other person, but in theory you can play it with as many people as you want, and take as long as you want to gather clues.

Other cool and easy breezy games -> Patchwork (You'll get some Tetris vibes, minus the stress), High Society (I LOVE Auction games, and this one is super fast and easy. Plus, auctions don't show up in video games very much), Captain Sonar (A submarine battle played in real-time, toughest part is getting 6-8 players), Pictomania (think Pictionary, but no teams, and an emphasis on speed), and Cash n Guns (everyone is splitting loot from a successful heist, comes with 8 foam guns as props).
