I remember chat being pretty horrible for sgdq but they're definitely outdoing themselves this year.

That's what you get with that many people watching. I never watch the chat for events like these, too much bullshit.

Pretty amazing how far people fall to vie for attention when presented with such a large crowd. Way to reinforce every terrible, tired stereotype of gamers.

The flipside of that though, it is nice to see that many people tuning in to watch. This is my first AGDQ, but it's crazy to see them get roughly twice as many viewers as they ever got for SGDQ (I could be remembering it that wrong, but I didn't remember them getting more than 50k last summer, and it almost hit 100k today).

One of the cool things to see is how many newer indie games show up on the run list; we've seen the return of the high skill level ceiling games that kind of went away for a long period of time.

Also, I'm super happy to see Cave story on the list. I remember wishing to see that during SGDQ last year. The rest of the lineup looks fantastic too.

The worst part about these (deliberate) DDOS attacks, they're going to eventually force the government to interfere and lay down some law. It's a dangerous road that might threaten net neutrality, all for some petty laughs.

It's crazy that they're not even admitting any fault with their new system. The sheer plethora of false claims shutting down their legitimate patrons demands an apology from Youtube at the very least. They cannot pretend that it's not happening.

And again we can partially blame Viacom for ruining the internet.

I always felt that buying used was a pretty darn weak form of protest. At the end of the day, you're still removing stock from shelves, and you're still (probably) talking about the game with others; indirectly promoting it.

If the developer really did something terrible with a game or franchise, why would you even want to subject yourself to it at all? And if the game is actually good enough to play, why are you protesting it? Rewarding a company when it does good is much more valuable than punishing it when it does bad (ideally, you would do both).

There are odd exceptions, of course (if the developer is treating its employees exceptionally poorly or something like that), but I can't think of any particularly good game that was made by a poorly managed developer.

Anything to help Giantbomb up the CBS totem pole.

Edit: Jebus, that is a little too long. I feel like they're not going to get accurate answers the more they ask of the surveyed.

I love the whole PSX trilogy, though I'll definitely agree that FF9 has the most staying power for me. The stories of FF7 and FF8 are reeeaally awesome for their first discs, but kinda fall apart after that. FF9 was perfectly solid back to front in my opinion. FF7 gets an honorable mention for Gold Saucer though, which was a game in and of itself that I spent countless hours in.

I'm really sad that we got FFXIII-2 and FFXIII-3 instead of FFXV and FFXVI in their place. It's such a waste to stay in the same universe when you can build entirely new worlds in the same engine in the way FF7 through 9 were made.

I hate to mention Dark Souls, one of my favorite games of the generation, but all the content after Ornstein and Smough is demonstrably weaker than everything before it. Every replay has me dreading that stage of the game.

Xenogears is probably another iconic example, but they did the right thing and actually finished the ending as it should have been, only cutting out the bits just before it (and they still tell you what happens, which is more than what you can say for a lot of games that were clearly cut short).

I've only watched a playthrough of Indigo Prophesy.. and man, I don't think any other game fits the category better.

I've never watched Pewpewdie in particular, but lets not pretend being a youtuber is easy work. It's managing equipment, managing video production, being your own PR, managing your fanbase, and actually being entertaining enough for people to give a crap. Not just anyone can do all that, especially that last bit.

The only people we should be angry at are the publishers who think it's a good idea to try and censor the web or silence criticism.

I'll say this, if I had been given a shitty script with groan inducing jokes, standing next to a wooden sculpture that only wants scoops for his crappy 3 hour commercial, I think I would have done the same thing Joel did. I mean you could see it on his face every-time there was some crappy joke there was this look of "Really?" Then, man said to himself, "Fuck it, I'm gonna read this shit like I don't give a fuck and make this lifeless production crew suffer through it all."

I'm not saying that was the best approach, but you could tell when games like No Man's Sky, Broken Age, and Dead Light came on he seemed genuinely interested. I mean he was actually trying to get people motivated that they were seeing new shit as he was the only guy clapping, and everyone else could have at least gave a shit at showing some enthusiasm.

For sure. I would feel nothing but shame to have to read those lines in front of thousands of people. I couldn't believe what I was hearing during those first few minutes of the show.

I feel kind of insulted now by their assertion that, "We listened" in response to trying to improve the show. They still based all the humor on bad videogamer stereotypes; old, tired, overused jokes that aren't the least bit clever. You get the sense that the writers only had an outside view of the industry, as there are certainly a million other ways they can make fun of it without resorting to the laziest material.
