I probably drink too much. But sometimes alcohol gives you good ideas, like The Great Beard-Off (TM). My roommate and I decided that we should do this test of endurance, and beard-growing, and mutherfucking brotherhood.

Here are the rules we will be adhering to.

1. On October 1, ALL facial hair will be shaved. This includes my mustache that I have had for 5 years and not touched.

2. Going forward (from October 1), everyone will grow their beard and hair indefinitely. It is encouraged that pics be shared but it is not necessary.

3. Don't be a dirty bastard. Clean your beard when necessary. Think of the children!

4. *EDIT* Due to requests and the prospect of being literally consumed by one's own beard, trimming of the neckline IS ALLOWED.

5. This is an endurance competition. Technically, anyone can shave at any time, but it is a voluntary resignation from the Beard-Off.

6. The winner is the last person to give in and shave.

We would like to extend the event to anyone who would like to be involved. I thought it would be fun to mention it to GB and see if anyone would like to get involved. Let me know in the comments if you want to be a part of it.

I'm in! I like having the extra isolation from the elements in the winter anyway.

But, trimming is not allowed? That's gonna be... scary.

Mother******, i just got a haircut and shaved off my beard the other day. Now I'm sad. On the bright side i don't look like a hobo anymore. But I'm digging the "clean" look, so no more beards/long hair for me. You guys have fun.

I would, but I have to be a productive member of society. I am envious of your beardly freedom.

@tineyoghurt: Haven't decided on whether or not trimming is allowed. I shall confer with the roommate when he wakes up.

@Gladiator_Games: That is sad....my beard also grows in a little unevenly, I usually end up with epic mutton chops and a long goatee. Here's hoping it grows more evenly.

Damn these genes, I can almost see my mustache and goatee growing with the naked eye, it's so fast, but the rest just doesn't keep up.

Very few people can actually grow a beard without having to go through this. Mine also does it, but it's part of what makes this an endurance test.

it should be cool. i'm not going to do it since  i don't look good with a beard. i don't have a full beard, i have patches of it from place to place.

I'm sure I will forget between now and then, but I will join in. Sadly my facial hair grows in extremely spotty, and flat out not at all in the moustache area, so all I can ever do is get the neck/chin line beard. The no trimming thing has me worried, because if not kept beards get bad real fast.

Nope, not me. I'm smack dab in the middle of filling my beard out now. Not gonna start all over at this point.

Meh, I've done something similar to this a few times for development cycles. Stop shaving when the project starts and then go epic hobo until the deadline is met. I look like crap when I do it though so I'll stick with my nicely trimmed little piece for now thank you.

@Choffy: No Shave November is for boys. This is a man's endeavor on a whole new level. Technically, we will be doing No Shave November, but after a month of no shaving and before a couple of months of no shaving.

That's a good point...I will have to see about trimming the neckline.

i can let my neck go for a few weeks without feeling too bad, but i have to trim my mustache down... i don't want to eat it, and i can't do handlebars...

Nice. I did loose my beard a while back due to wanting change, but I am back with a nice short beard now. And I would totally join this, if it wasn't for the "no-trim" rule. 'cause seriously, I look like a hobo pretty damn fast if I don't trim it. I need to trim it at least twice a week for it to look respectable. Good luck though!

OK, so we talked it over and since a lot of folks don't want to do it because of the trimming rule, we are going to go ahead and allow trimming. Neckbeards are terrifying anyway.
