Street Fighter IV impressions

Yes, I played Street Fighter IV. And yes, it is as frickin' awesome as you were hoping. I played the 360 version of the game for a good hour and a half, tried out about five or six characters and I'm here to tell you that, at it's core, it's just a prettier SFII with 3D graphics. Not that I'm complaining! I had a total blast and now want this game more than ever. It's worth mentioning that after having played it, there are some (mildly) serious decisions to be made for those that have both a PS3 and 360. Because OH MY GOD the 360 d-pad is total shite. Not that we didn't already know that, but for anyone getting this game for 360 I would say you're required  to get one of the arcade sticks or at the very least that new SFIV game pad with the non-shitty d-pad. But those things cost money, money that PS3 owners could probably get away with not spending because their controller doesn't suck. Online functionality is also something to take into consideration, for obvious reasons. For me, I'm inclined to get it on PS3 but I still have a feeling that I'll end up with the 360 version, if only for the better online experience. If that's the case I'll probably get the SFIV pad as opposed to a stick. One issue is price, but the bigger issue for me is that I'm just more comfortable playing SF with a pad thanks to the SNES versions of SFII. At any rate, I'm damn excited for this game. I'm also damn excited for the upcoming Lost and Damned DLC for GTA4. I picked up a fresh points card last night in preparation, so I'm good to go. And now we wait...

I'm a terrible salesman

So my Wii has been up for sale for a few weeks now. I put it on craigslist a few weeks ago and put it in the local paper but so far no bites. However a couple days ago, my friend's girl called me to ask what came with it and what I wanted for it. She seemed to think that I had it priced a bit high, but I explained that virtual console games and extra controllers cost money. "But Best Buy has it with 8 games for less $!" Rest assured at least six of those games are garbage. During the conversation I mentioned how I never play with it, and of course she asked why. Considering it would actually be a gift for my friend I explained to her that it is indeed inferior to Xbox 360 and PS3. My friend likes games like GTA and racing games, of which the Wii has neither. Well, yea, there are racing games on Wii but they suck balls compared to their next/now-gen brethren. So basically I shot my one chance of unloading this thing all to hell for the sake of my friend having a better game system. But she did tell me she wants it, despite my lobbying for her to get him a 360. I think she's actually the one that wants it, because she said she wants Wii Fit so she can lose weight. Of course I mentioned that there are obviously better ways to do that. What I didn't mention is the weight limit for the balance board. Draw whatever conclusions you will from that statement, and you're probably right on the money. So wish me luck selling this thing, or no presents for Christmas this year!

the good, the bad, and the totaly fucked

Have you ever noticed how whenever something good happens or you rectify an unfavorable situation some thing(s) else manages to go wrong? Yea, I figured as much.

First: the good. My Xbox 360 arrived today just in time for the NXE. Cool. The system M$ sent me back, however, was not the one I sent in. Not a huge deal, except for the fact that when I want to play a XBLA game or use any other DLC I have to be signed into Live, which can be a royal pain in the ass. This can be remedied pretty easily but is still annoying.

Next up: the bad. My internetz has been a total bastard today, with my modem periodically resetting and kicking me off whatever I'm doing at the time. Of course it decided to do this while I was in the middle of getting the NXE update, which caused me to yell and basically freak out. But it seems that all is well, except for the fact that the XBL marketplace is fucked to the point that I can't download the Left 4 Dead demo or the Tomb Raider demo. SUCK.

Now for the fucked up section. My Guitar Hero (3) controller is being an even bigger bastard than my internetz. Buttons not registering = mad frustration. Now the actual thing thats really messed up is that this is the second one I've had screw up in this fashion. AND what makes it really angering is that Red Octane support is utterly worthless unless the thing is under warranty, which expires after 90 days. AND you need the receipt. It would appear that RO customer support is the exact opposite of EA/Harmonix support which is totally customer friendly and awesome. I got a replacement drum set like 10 months after buying the game, no questions asked. That's how build trust with your customer. So bascally I'm beat unless I buy a new one, which wouldn't make much sense considering I know for a fact that they don't hold up. Unacceptable.

Some thoughts on the NXE. To sum up my feelings: totally unnecessary.  Don't give a damn about avatars. Don't give a damn about Netflix. Barely give a damn about game installs since I only have the puny 20GB hard drive. Aside from those features, what else is there to be excited about? Nothing. So as you can surmise, I'm pretty indifferent about it. I don't feel it ruined anything per se, but I wish it was an optional update. Okay, enough bitching.

On a (slightly) happier note, Christmas is getting closer and closer! Which basically means that I'm getting closer to owning Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Far Cry 2, Tomb Raider:Underworld and Resistance 2. That's almost enough for me to be thankful that Jesus was born! Thanks dude!

Sorry Dennis

I am surprised that such a big deal is being made out of this, but it totally didn't have to be this way, regardless of whether Too Human turned out good or bad. Oh, Dennis Dyack, why didn't you just listen to the PR people and just chill out? I'm all for speaking your mind but you have to keep your audience from hating you in the process, especially when you're in a big-money business like gaming. Maybe hate is too strong a word but, despite the fact that I agree with most of what Dennis had said, he comes off as being whiney sometimes and I think that hurt Too Human's rep more than any bad review could. And when I say bad reviews I mean the reviews themselves, especially 1up's review, are bad. Despite his loose-lipped-ness, I still support the hell out of Mr. Dyack/Silcon Knights and will probably get the game sooner or later if only because it brings Eternal Darkness 2 just a little bit closer to being a reality.

Salutations Bombers!

Hello all. So the site's finally up and I've gotta say I like it quite a bit. Some of you may know me as HungFar over at Gamespot and I will continue to post there but for how much longer who knows. That site has gone downhill fast and when you factor in how ridiculously puritanical the mods can be, it's just not as cool a place to visit as it used to be. But Giant Bomb is special. I know that we're basically "finishing" the site by adding in all this stuff but it's so damn compelling. So lets do this!
