Games that stray away from the original ideea

Am I the only person here that hates series that "adapt".And by adapt I mean butcher the original ideea to come up with something good. They try to mix things up,and the result usually is succesful.Good for the company.Bad for me.Let me demonstrate using 2 examples:

1.Dawn of War 2
I realy don't know how they came up with this. They tried to make it more like the board game. And that is the problem. The first games where kinda like the boardgame, but still dfferent. Some problems:Removing Basebuilding-No,no,and no.It only worked in World in Conflict.Removing basebuilding just doesn't seem right.Focus on individual squads-The first game had this thing, and it made me love it.The second went way over the line.Too much focus on the units themselves. Not a bright ideea.Company Of Heroes=Dawn Of War 2.I couldn't help to think that the moment I saw "Throw a satchel charge on that emplacement",the green dots behind cover, the radius of the machinegun, the highlights when clicking buildings, the explosions.Way too familiar.

2.C&C 4.(This is getting long,so i'll sum it up).1.Removal of Basebuilding.2.Making the graphics look cartoonish.3.Removing the Scrin(I am so dead for saying that). The opinions made on C&C 4 are from the beta and may(not) change. God damn EA,you murdered Red Alert 3,now butcher this series too?.You Bastards!

Thanks for reading this wall of text.Cookie for you,and tell me what you think.

I actually liked Red Alert 2 along with expansion pack. Every other C&C game after that didn't delight me a whole lot though. Perhpas the biggest disappointment was Deus Ex The Invisible War. That game was just horrible in a lot respects.

I thought Red Alert 3 wasn't bad. It was a change of pace, definitely, but I didn't feel like I needed another game just like Red Alert 3. It was an interesting game, and they managed to keep most of the humor of the first two.
But yeah, I'm pissing terrified of what C&C 4 is gonna be like.

Glad to see that people are thinking that  this is pretty stupid.Red Alert 3 wasn't bad.I was just not as similar as the other 2(3 if you count the expansion).

No Scrin? Whhaaaat...

I quite enjoyed RA3...the expansion...the commander's' challenge anyway...that was fun.

DoW2 did make it much more like the 40K tabletop game, which was kinda nice. I kinda liked it. My major problem was with the races, and the fact that there was only 1 campaign, and it was essentialy for the one race i hate most in that whole damn universe.

I don't feel that the removal of base building in Dawn of War II was an attempt to make it more like a tabletop game. If they wanted to do a direct remake of the tabletop game as a video game then they could have just done it and removing bases didn't make it all that similar to the tabletop game. Personally I think removing bases in Dawn of War II was something that worked really well and made it stand out from other real-time strategy games.

Yes,i do.I feel like DoW 2 affected me the most.I'm sorry but removing basebuilding is like a sin;Why you ask?The number of units is way down.By the time SoulStorm was out,we had 9 races, every army had like 20-30 unique units, and the game had a bigger scale. Now,it feels stripped. And i agree with the massive removal of races and the only campaign being SpaceMarines.

Well Dawn of War wasn't a great representation of the board game in the first place, so perhaps making it more like the board game it'll be more well received by the tabletop fans.

DOW2 is most similar to this style of Warhammer 40k game (Believe it's called Kill-teams, can't remember, haven't played it in forever) where there weren't huge armies, only headquarter unites and elite units, and sometimes the best of the troops.

What.Wait a minute.Bad Company is actually a great improvement. It added a good and funny campaign and destructible enviroments, while staying true to the formula. That is one of my "how to 1-up games" examples. And regarding C&C 4,now I kinda like it,but it is still way different.
