This is way late, but the person who asked the question about Games Workshop being saved by renting out their IP to all-comers is wrong about one major thing: they weren't saved by doing that. GW has become much more profitable in the last couple of years due to changing their previous opaque communication and introducing easier ways to get into their tabletop games: licensed games are a nice supplement but most of their increased profitably has come from their core products: plastic toy soldiers being sold.

@do_the_manta_ray: That would have been the case last time I was in the hobby, but now I go to a local gaming group, play some casual games with friends, and hang out on a lovely discord with folks I meet up with once in a while to play at Warhammer World. It incentivises painting quite a bit - although I do enjoy it in it's own right I agree I probably wouldn't be doing it if not for the game.

@do_the_manta_ray: I had a huge break from the hobby for about 10 years, but the last few years have been a real renaissance for GW: I now own something like 600 models - and almost 1 in 2 of those are even painted!

@do_the_manta_ray: This could have changed as canon is a slippery and ever-changing beast, but at least in the 3rd-edition Tau codex, Kroot weren't made subservient: the Tau discovered the Kroot on the run from a load of Orks and helped them out during their expansions - now the Kroot are "loyal mercenaries" for the Tau most of the time. They are mercs but they have a special fondness and working relationship with the Tau, but that won't stop small groups of them going off and doing their own thing.

Lots of folks are talking about how the progression and making your own restaurant is gone in this game: it isn't, but it's not signposted well.

In the screen where you pick the restaurant to work at for the day, the first option is *your* restaurant. All the others are you being a chef-for-hire going to the pre-set places for a day to do the challenges there. In your restaurant, you pick the menu (and the menu expands from 3 mains, 1 side and 1 drink as you level up), you get more cooking stations and holding stations as you level up, you build buzz (the word of mouth about your restaurant) and the decoration for your restaurant is actually there and used. I'm not sure that Dan actually realised that - but you'll notice that the restaurants he picked had their own completely different decorations to his awesome insane "everything on the walls" look.

I believe there's some bug/missing feature about the special conditions each day can have (like people really want a certain kind of food on that day or what have you) which is going to be put in soon, but the making your own restaurant with its own menu etc is defo still in the game.

I got back into Warhammer after a gap of about 10 years about 6 months before Age of Sigmar hit. Great timing eh?

Although I will say that I don't think Age of Sigmar is a completely awful game. I know lots of people new to wargaming like it, and I do appreciate the open-ended nature of it as something that slightly deflects the "win at all costs" mentality that some wargamers have. However, I also think that it has a completely uninspired setting that does nothing for me, and that it really doesn't help that they had to get rid of Oldhammer to make AoS happen.

@wrathofgod: Right. The idea that someone can look at Churchill and unequivocally say "good guy" baffles me.

So y'know when Austin asked "those weren't real people were they?"... Well they were.

Ultra-dorky bit of 40k trivia here, but instead of robots they use Servitors, which are effectively lobotomised people who follow simple programs in order to do menial tasks. Nice right?

Surprising list. Cool. Personally I'd put MGSV further down, put Bloodborne on the list, put Witcher 3 higher... I'd make innumerable changes actually, but I love how weird this list is. And I really love how high Kerbal is up there.

Odd that some people are losing their mind about it though.
