I played a lot of Nethack. It's fascinating to see just how much that game was taking verbatim from Rogue, even with the nonsense named scrolls.

Same with Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, I guess, which is probably the most approachable old school Roguelike considering it has an excellent graphical version.

It's a real bummer Abby's leaving. I hope she doesn't feel like the community didn't appreciate her. I feel like the negative voices and criticism always seem the loudest because people who are fans/happy with the content usually don't go out of their way to say anything. Kind of like how looking for uncurated user reviews for almost anything is always going to dredge up the angriest, most bewildering complaints and base negativity.

@vinny: As someone who is familiar with 3.5, but not 5E, I personally didn't mind the tour through character creation. I feel like CRPGs are a bit hard to show off, since a chunk the audience probably wants to avoid spoilers so don't want to see story, while conversely another chunk doesn't care much about combat and wants story only, then theres the gooey middle who don't know enough about CRPGs to know what they want.

@grayfox1210: I also forgot Dark Sun, which is actually a pretty cool setting -- fantasy wasteland ravaged by magic, so everyone became psyhics instead because that's way different than magic and certainly can't go awry.

Baldur's Gate is in Forgotten Realms (Faerun). Neverwinter and Planescape also take place in Forgotten Realms, though Planescape is technically its own setting.

Ravenloft is in Greyhawk, which is like Forgotten Realms but more forgotten.

All the good books happen in Dragonlance.

Steampunk weirdos hang out in Eberron.

This has been your guide to DND campaign settings.

I can't believe it. I recently watched Behind The Curve and my reaction to this video is making me understand how the flat earthers felt when their $20,000 gyroscope consistently told them the Earth was spherical. It can't be true.

I found FF7's writing super corny during the first section, but it eventually found its footing. I ended up really enjoying a lot of the dialogue as the game went on. That said, the early going felt very rough, and those first sidequests in particular have some Deadly Premonition levels of stilted, uncanny weirdness.

It honestly feels like that first section of the game had different writers or translators or something, which would make sense considering it was shown like 4-5 years ago, with the same dialogue, well before Square took it away from CyberConnect and committed to developing the remake in-house.

FF7 remake is so damned good. I get why Vinny is having a bit of a struggle with the early going, though, because that game has an issue I've only ever seen in television series where the writing starts out very clunky , then gets progressively better as if the writers/translators slowly got more comfortable with the cast. By the mid way point the writing has gone from kind of groan inducing to legitimately good.

Also kind of a shame that Abby is so opposed to trying it. I feel like she might be a bit worried about it being a NIER situation where it has a layer of weirdo creep pervert nonsense smeared over it. But it doesn't. It's just a really good game.

What's the requirement to actually have a "date" with the Vault City girl? I remember the outcome and some of the dialogue options being one of my favorite throwaway gags.
