This week in mods: GTAIV and Crysis

(For best results, watch videos on Youtube at 720p or higher)

First mod I'd like to show is the latest iteration of ENB for GTAIV:

ENB is a graphical mod that basically takes away the vaseline filter, and greatly improves the lighting. The result is one of the best looking games you've ever seen. It also brings GTAIV's high quality textures to bear, an act that was strangely impossible with the base game.

Next up is the Carmageddon mod. Essentially it takes friction out of the physics calculations for cars. Here is one of the original demonstrations:

Here is an example of it in multiplayer:

(instructions in vid description)

Finally we have Xtreme FX 2 for Crysis, a long anticipated particle mod from esteemed Crysis modder Xigmatek. Living proof that PhysX is useless (all the effects are done without it, with less performance demands, and look better than any PhysX implementation).

Well, just wanted to share. Hope you enjoyed.

The ENB mod looks fantastic. If I had the game for PC, I'd play it with that on for sure.

I wish I could see what it looked like from inside the car. That's the way I drove in GTA IV. Looks pretty damn awesome though. And those particle effects look great.

The car friction one is crazy as hell. I didn't see much of a difference in the first two. I mean, yeah, it probably looks better, but it's not very noticeable to me.

First two videos are the same mod. The carmageddon ones use the base game, so you can use that for comparison if you like.

Crysis vid was actually fun to watch. Like watching a Michael Bay flick. Bums me out that they aren't keeping those alien designs.

I know right? C1's alien designs seem a lot more creative than C2's.

After watching the Carmageddon mod, I really want to watch Inception again. It was that exact brand of crazy.

My first experiment with Xtreme FX 2:

Note to self: when trying to view an explosion, but some distance between you and it.

I'm normally not a fan of graphical enhancement mods (they usually make stuff look cheaper) but ENB looks amazing, and holy fucking batman that's some sick effects in Xtreme FX2.

Is it just me, or do the trees in the graphics enhancement mod look like complete trash? They look like they're from a PS2 game. Everything else looks amazing, but the trees are really off.

I really want GTA IV on PC just to play with these mods. Must find it cheap somewhere.

@extremeradical: Indeed. Watch this. I might be crazy, but it syncs up pretty nicely.

No, it isn't just you.  A lot of those enhanced texture mods/packs for GTA IV totally don't match the quality of Rockstar's design team's work.

I could be wrong, but I believe those are the original trees from the base game. If I recall correctly they never looked particularly good either. ENB mod is a lighting and post-processing mod; I think the only other mods he had active was a camera mod and modded cars.

Some awesome looking mods there. That should be standard graphics on the "next-gen" consoles, whenever that happens.

Same thing here.  I knew GTA could look good, but that is surprising. It makes the Carmaggedon video look horrible in comparison.

And the particle effects for Crysis... wow, just wow. That ship blowing up during the credits was amazing.

Xigmatek just updated with V2.1 of Xtreme FX 2. Now with airstrikes.

This guy loves his explosions. Can't wait to see what he does for Crysis 2.
