@humanity: I see where you are coming from. This game very much seems like a game made for people who like Destiny/Division style games but want a game that has an ending rather than a forever game. It is very typical of those games, warts and all. Outriders seems like a game I will drop 40 hours into and put it down forever, and I am fine with that.
I don't know if this demo of Outriders is doing them a lot of favors. I've played quite a bit of it and I am still on the fence.
The tutorial makes it seem like a cover shooter, but that is definitely not the way to play it. It gives you the wrong impression right off the bat. The cover system is clunky and kinda bad and it just seems like something the enemies are supposed to use so you don't just mow them down.
I suspect the abilities will get pretty wild later in the game since even blue level items have mods that have Destiny exotic level changes. But unless you replay the demo a lot you don't get many of them so people won't really see the depth in the system.
It's nice that progress caries over to the final game, but I think a vertical slice in the middle of the game when you have more powers and higher level gear to try out would have done a better job at showing off what the game can be.
The Outriders youtube page has some great videos explaining the classes and game progression that are way more informative than this demo was.
I would love to see Vinny go back to the first Assassin's Creed game. Some things didn't age well, like you can't assassinate someone from a rooftop or a hiding place. But I think the combat in that game is actually the hardest in the series and holds up well. The parry timing is extremely tight compared the sequels and you can get wrecked by high level enemies very fast.
It would be a hard argument to make that AC1 is the best game in the series, but it is definitely my favorite.
Day one, category one, and I am already yelling at my monitor about how they made the wrong choice. I love game of the year. And I am very happy they brought categories back.
This is going to be great. Honestly, I kinda wish they would not play music for this. The visuals are as minimal as they can get so it's kinda like a podcast. And music in the background of a podcast is kinda annoying. Having music while watching this on a side monitor while gaming was a little much.
@chipmnk I did all the low rank hunts with Gunlance, then switched to Charge Blade for High rank and beyond. Gunlance really needs evade extender to overcome the low mobility. Maybe when Jan has some armor and deco options he might come back to the boomstick.:
