Getting Tactical: Bad Company 2

I've been playing a lot of the Bad Company 2 beta recently in anticipation of the March 2 retail release. Here are just a few things you can do to have a better experience.

Teamwork

No Caption Provided
Don't just join a squad, play with the squad. Compliment each other by picking different kits and working together. If you're the medic, don't rush out in front where you'll die first and not help anybody. If you're using the assault kit, blow the @(#*&!# out of those windows that the enemy is hiding in. Communication is key here. Ask for health, ask for ammo, ask for someone to blow the @#(&^@# out of that tank.

Spotting enemies is one of the best ways to be a team player. If you see an enemy that doesn't see you yet, spot him before starting to shoot. Even if you don't kill them, someone else might be in a better spot to do some damage. If you see a tank coming down the road, spot it so your armor knows it's coming and act accordingly. Spotting people in windows and on gun placements makes them easy pickings for the snipers on your team.

Find some people you work well with and try to play with them regularly. I'm sure you can find a squad to play with right here on Giant Bomb!

Vehicles

In my experience, vehicles are much better used in support roles than for pushing through the enemy lines. You should hang back and suppress the enemy while your team moves up. Driving out in front of your team will pretty much guarantee your quick death and a waste of a vehicle. Also, because you're not driving around wildly you'll be able to spot enemies constantly which will help the rest of your team.

If you have the chance to steal an enemy vehicle, go for it! As long as their vehicle is still running, it won't respawn for them. That means they're one vehicle short now.

Common Courtesy

No Caption Provided
If you see someone repairing a vehicle, don't jump into the driver seat and run off with it. I've had this happen to me too many times to count. It always ends with the thief driving straight into the enemy and blowing up.

Wait for some people to jump into your vehicle at the respawn point before driving off. The large maps make it difficult to get back to the front lines again without a ride.

Better yet, if the vehicle they're repairing is empty, jump in and switch to the gunner seat. Points are only distributed for repairing manned vehicles.

also good tips thanks,  I've had so many people drive off while I'm repairing vehicles on MAG too, so annoying.

@natetodamax: Whenever I hear someone on with a Mic, they're either complaining about other people on their team for not working together or complaining about the other team for 'hacking'. So in other words, I agree with you.

Well, when I said irritating I was referring to how uncomfortable it is to wear a mic while playing. But yeah, I also don't want to hear the old "OMG HACKERS" complaint.

Ah. Well, yes. They do get irritating after a while. *Cough*.

@natetodamax: I use the x41 headset. It's comfortable and has the added benefit of my lady not giving me the death stare for playing my games too loud.

@Aaox: You just need to find some guys that you can play with. For me it's my two brothers. We work pretty well together. I'm sure you can find someone on the forums here.

Most importantly - have the decency to use squadspawn more often than not. Teamwork ensues. The game's pacing improves tenfold. Can't tell how much having players not using squadspawn does hurt the game's pacing and teamplay. I just don't get some people. How can somebody not spawn on me, when I'm at the perfect vantagepoint on a crate? I'm so grateful for players using squadspawn. I'm grateful for players surviving long enough to offer a good squadspawn for me. I'm grateful for good fucking squadplay.

No squadspawn. No squadplay. So use squadspawn please. Please.

Yes on all points, and I might have a few of my own.

  • The UAV is for spotting, the more you shoot with it, the greater chance someone notices you and shoots you down. (Exeption beeing enemy helicopters, with alternate weapons package, you take them down easily).
  • Ammo, throw one out as soon as you spawn, then others where needed. Beeing out of ammo sucks, and assaults seems sometimes to forget they have the kit until they run dry themselves.
  • Stationary ATs is every tankdrivers worst nightmare. (Believe me, I have spent days worth of time driving tanks in bfbc). They hit harder than rpgs, never runs dry, and in this game, respawns. So if there's a tank rampaging around your base, get to one.
  • You have a parachute. There's no excuse for falling to your death.

I agree with everything. The classes my squad always run are two engineers, one assault and one medic. It works great against campers

These are great tips for newbies to the Battlefield franchise, like myself here, who's been really enjoying the BF:BC2 demo. Thanks!

Also, with the UAV, don't just fly it up in the air over the battlefield and get shot down in a second. Try to hide behind cover, trees are an excellent source of cover for the UAV, given it's size.

Totally agree with all points. When using a tank I always hang back abit and just spot and kill enemies, which is so much more benficial for the team.

Remember you can harm copters using the tank gunner seat and you can take them down using it.

Oh yeah, take down the UAV whenever you can!  UAVs can be very harmful in the right hands.

Also, if your squad is down and you are deep in enemy territory, try to find a safe spot and let the team spawn on you.

Question!

On the Attack Chopper RB is like an anti tank missile.
Can this thing be guided?
If so, how?

Also if you are flying a helicopter and a pesky UAV is chasing you, the best way to take them out is to fly to where the UAV box is and just get your chopper gunner to shoot him!

i was about to post a thread about how the demo is kinda keeping me away from the game at times.. I love the demo to death I play it all the time, But I have yet to find any decent squadmates that give a damn about the squad system. Everyone just wants to be a hero.

Everytime the team spawns to the areas where the choppers are they jump in by themselves and take off. The choppers are no good unless they are being used to their full advantage.

No one has a darn mic either!! the only time I hear a mic being used its so someone can play their music or just breathe into it. I have a mic but I don't even use it because when I try and let others know about a location of an enemy or anything they don't pay attention and run off.

I don't even use my mic anymore for that reason that no one else has one. If there are some Giantbombers on here that want to play the true tactical squad based way then add me on PSN my id is the same as on here.

see you guys on the battlefield!!

@Death_Unicorn: Ah... the Hellfire missile. That thing is tricky, you can try blind-firing it, but it won't do much good.

It is very effective against tanks that have been traced with the tracer dart. (Tip: Your gunner's alternate fire is actually a tracer dart!)

Once it is traced, all you have to do is point your heli directly at the tank, and launch your hellfire, you should keep aiming at the tank until it hits.
