My Personal Top 8 of the Year (so far)

List items

  • There aren't many developers who will strip a game from the vision they had for it, in order to answer the critics. Bioware is one of those rare developers, that took a game I loved (Mass Effect) and made it even better with Mass Effect 2. Brilliant game.

  • Why the industry was so surprised by the sales success of this game is beyond me. Red Dead Redemption could possibly be considered Rockstar Games' opus, with a compelling story, and character who you could sympathize with, and possibly the most amazing ending that was after the ending you'll ever see.

  • Why aren't you buying this game? No seriously... why?

  • Hey. Can you take that game you made, and improve it? Like... exponentially?

These are discussions that must happen at Nintendo, but damn if they don't succeed almost 100% of the time. This however, is the masterpiece in the Mario franchise... after Super Mario 3 of course. And not a Fred Savage in sight, either.

  • This may not be a spectacular game, but for the long running fans of the series (and let's be honest, if you still cared after the long standing development time for this game, you are a long running fan) this is a great game. It helps personify the bad ass we all knew Sam Fisher was, while "wrapping" up his story.

  • I'm hesitant to say this is worthy of being a game of the year, but I'm too busy destroying the buttons on my controller to care. The formula for the game is simple - take everything we did in the first two, add some pretty, throw it in a blender, and serve. This is an example of that working, brilliantly.

  • I love this game. And never have I appreciated this game, as I did the day that Nintendo had their E3 2010 Press Conference, and I saw what the true "Next-Gen" offering of Zelda they were giving us.

This is a Zelda ripoff. A ripoff so good, that if imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Miyamoto and Co. should be blushing until the next decade is over.

  • Is it a good story? No.

Does it have good graphics? No.

Does it have an extremely large world that you can basically do stuff that doesn't make any sense in a real world environment, and the physics can be broken easily? Yes.

    SOLD!!!
