My Top Games of '09

List items

  • I was a little surprised myself that I chose this. Truth be told, I couldn’t tell you a game I’d recommend to anyone more than this that came out this year. It’s not just good for a Batman game, it’s a damn fine game all around. There’s a very impressive level of polish that this game has, not something you’d expect from a developer who hasn’t made a big game before (their only other game came out in 2006 called Urban Chaos). The feel of Batman is just right. Even when the campaign is over you’ll find yourself heading back to the challenge rooms just to get a little more of the taste of all this deliciousness.

  • Fantastic frackin’ game. From beginning to the end it really feels like a movie. Just long enough to never get old. I haven’t even cracked the multiplayer aspect of it yet.

  • well Forza is a technically better driving sim, Shift is much more fun & intense. The visceral feeling you get in the cockpit view is one of my highlights of ‘09

  • I’m a fan of the Resident Evil universe and while I don’t consider this game to be a survival horror game, it’s a great action game. I only played it co-op and it was a great experience that way. Plus, once you get infinite ammo for the magnum, it’s all over for the baddies.

  • while a newer game for me (just got it for Christmas) it’s already been a blast. When you get the mix right you’re doing so much more than just using a plastic instrument, it really feels good. Plus the soundtrack is fantastic!

  • this was the first of my videogame superhero trilogy of this year (followed by Batman & Wolverine) that I played (did that make sense?) This game is just a lot of fun-Performing Thunder Drops to take out a group of enemies, throwing electric grenades, or just climbing around to find all the blast shards; it’s all very enjoyable.

  • more of the same really, but when it’s this good that’s never a bad thing. An easier ramp up in difficulty means you don’t get frustrated as early on. Well I didn’t play as much as I wanted to I loved what I did play.

  • I’ll definitely be playing Forza 3 for a long time. It’s a better driver than Shift, has a ton more options; but it’s just not as good a game or as fun as Shift. That said, I can be entertained for hours trying to improve my hot lap times and not get any penalties.

  • sure there’s no real career mode, tuning, and the car buying is completely bonkers, but one fact remains. When on my trip to Europe, I took my PSP, DS, Archos filled with movies, iPod Touch, and a book; the book and this game got the majority of my 30 hours of waiting/travel time. The driving is very solid and getting golds in the “career” mode can be quite difficult but so very worth it.
