I bought a Harpejji and it arrived, so I made a video

Back in October 2009 I ordered this...thing. It's a plank of wood with strings on it and it makes noise, kind of like them geetars the kids are into. It's a 24-string tapping instrument. It's tuned to a whole tone scale (C, D, E, F#, G#, A#). It also has some interesting tech built into it. The bass and melody strings go through separate built-in pre-amps. When you lift your finger off a string it stops immediately thanks to the per-string mute system. Also, it sustains forever, which is weird.

Anyways, a few months into the build they offered to upgrade it from the D1 to the new K24 model they were working on, but that it would add a few extra months to the build. Decline a free upgrade? Hell no! So now, nearly seven months later, it has finally arrived. Yay!

That thing sounds rad! Nice bass sound on it, too. I can't wait to hear what you do with it. How hard was it to get to grips with initially?

It's the question of the day. $2,500.

So far it's been very easy to play! It has a very logical layout: All of the C notes are marked with a notch. Horizontally the notes ascend in whole tones. Vertically they ascend in semitones.

The strings don't ring out, so there's no muting technique to learn, they're simply silent. The notes seem to sustain forever and they're clean, so there's no tapping technique to learn. You just touch a string and it makes a sound.

It feels very clean and simple to me. :)

How did you learn how to play something like that you didn't own before? also that's alot of money for some finger tapping instrument. Whatever your pc rigs are often is like the best, you probally are rich or like to spend alot. Still it sounds nice.

Damn right it does. If I left the video on any longer you would have seen the laser show...and by laser show I mean laser show.

I'm learning it there in the video. It's surprisingly intuitive.

I am also neither rich nor fond of spending a lot, I just spend what I think is necessary on really specific things like my PC and music stuff. I'm really thrifty about everything else and keep my monthly expenses low. :)

Squirrels are awesome.

Though that thing-a-majig is pretty neat too.

Okay, watching the video, it's not just neat, it's way awesome. Also, that thing could totally play most of Christmas Eve/Sarajevo.

I always wondered when this tech would appear. Just, y'know, never thought it would appear on some weird board-string thing that plays music.
