2011 Top 10

While there are many games that came out this year that could go on this list, I can't add a majority of them. Some of them were either remakes or ports of older games. So this list will be original games from this very year. I will mention though, Dragon Quest VI for the DS as well as Ocarina of Time on 3DS are just spectacular. Alright, here we go.

List items

  • Of course I'd have to put this game in first place. Not only is it a Zelda game, but the origin to everything. The changes they've made were for the better. The controls felt great, the items were fun and the story just as epic as usual. Not to mention, this version of Princess Zelda is completely adorable. There are so many ways to describe this game.

  • Folks constantly told me I should play this. (Lookin' at you Giant Bombsquad) and I finally did. Now that I've played it, I can say I've seen it all. I've finally seen a game that's crazy. They looked at realism and gave it the finger. I say bravo to this game and hope number 4 is just as crazy if not more.

  • Ah, now here is a nice little gem for the 3DS. The addition to online multiplayer for this game was it's savior. It's a lot more fun playing against human players instead of the ruthless AI that love to spam the dreaded blue shell. Now just grab a few friends and you've got a party.

  • Ah Skyrim. Nothing like walking out into the wilderness after a dreaded dragon attack and just going wherever you want to. Weilding a sword in one hand and a fireball in the other while striking down all who step in your way. If it wasn't for the PS3's glitches and screwups, this epic game would be higher up. But hey, number 4 isn't bad, right?

  • This was my first rogue-like game. It welcomed me with a burst of flames to the face and my name on a tombstone. But now that I have quite a few retries, I'm hooked. It's cheap on Steam, if you like RPG's or getting angry for no reason, play this game.

  • I watched this games development here on GB. At first I had no idea what they were going with. Getting to know the team and seeing the game form into it's shape told me to give it a try. I purchased it, played it and an hour in, I couldn't step away.

  • Two words for this game.... Epic Grindfest. I normally don't like grinding all that much in my RPG's, but the charm and special appreciation I have of this series keeps me going. Just seeing all those numbers and knowing that's how much you are hurting your enemy. I love it.

  • I will admit, even with my great love for Insomniac Games, I started losing interest in Resistance after 2. This game came along and changed that. I wouldn't call it a joyride, as it really shows the messed up stuff that can go on in an apocalypse. But it's a joyride when it comes to story and combat, as well as wanting to actually "Finish the fight"

  • Oh the joys of things in 3D, like physics? Jokes aside, they way the story mode is played ensures that you know how to play. The roshambo style fighting makes countering much easier, that is if you are good at timing. I stink at fighting games, as well as this one, but I've found fun in it. I've always loved this series, but the 3DS version is the one to play.

  • Oh Dragon Age II. You're a bit of a mess but mostly you're a bundle of fun. The spell effects are great, especially since they can rip your enemies apart and the melee skills are quite fun as well. The dialogue trees remind me of the days when I played Knights of the Old Republic, only a bit better and follows the fantasy genre, which I love better. One of these days I'll beat it.
