The Flaws of Gamers

The similarity with regular gamers and fanboys/girls is that they’re biased to their own opinion. Now I know what you’re thinking: “Hold on, doesn’t that make us all fanboys or fangirls?” Not really, there’s a difference in how it’s expressed, the fanatics are overly zealous and make ramblings like: “This game is the best game ever, it’s better than blah, blah, blah!” On the other side you have regular gamers trying to set the standards tend to put their biased ideals out there and give it to others, it seems like there’s an unwritten law as in what is supposed to be hated and what’s supposed to be respected. Examples could be; “it’s okay to hate Final Fantasy but respect Baldur’s Gate 2”, “hate Halo but respect Half-Life”, “hate Gears of War but respect Metal Gear Solid”, “hate Grand Theft Auto IV but respect Saints Row 2”, “hate Uncharted but respect The Legend of Zelda”, etc. etc. Do you see where I’m going with this?

What I also find that’s totally messed up, let’s say there’s an insult towards a hated game, the fans of that game should how to take the insult to take them as opinion and learn not to take them as jokes. Honestly, I think the “take opinion” phrase is misused and overused. I would rather say to folks that they should try understanding that there are different opinions out there. Plus, there’s a difference between what is an opinion and an insult, and gamers honestly seem to confuse the two these days which is plain ridiculous.

“It sucks!”

“It’s overrated!”

“It’s a shitty!”

Those are insults compared to the in-depth criticisms on what someone could say about something they don’t like. Even if you have an opinion, to say take it respect kind of like an arrogant statement. It’s like saying your word is final and that’s end of the argument. Just because you’re entitled to your opinion it doesn’t mean it cannot be contested, debated or argued.

Remember, I’m not talking about extreme fanatics because many people I know and you know are guilty of this {I have to confess, that I’m a bit guilty of this because I used like one of them until I stopped and thought how wrong it is}. In most cases of “take others opinions” are used, aren’t you the ones trying to prove that there’s different views out there? Which means your word is not the final word. Even if you have several people supporting you, that doesn’t mean that you’re right either. Everyone has an opinion and everyone is entitled to their opinion, we all know that. Nazis have opinions, the KKK have opinions, serial killers and even rapists have an opinion but you wouldn’t take it if they just told you to would you?

I promote that if you disagree, do it in a polite, respectful and intelligent manner rather than to burst a blood vessel. In speaking of taking insults and taking opinions to something that is hated on: In the case of Halo, not only is this game a bit overrated to like this game but it’s now far more overrated to hate it. Yes, I said it because everybody has something to say about Halo and yet nothing new and people are starting not to have a legitimate reason to hate the game in the first place. Now gamers just listen to what any gamer talks smack about the game, worse is when the person attain a lot of followers because the majority of these gamers act as if they don’t have a mind of their own. The gamer could say something like: “Eat shit, it tastes like chocolate fudge.” And gamers would agree just like that.

Few of these insults, they have the audacity to say to the fans of the hated game that they should learn to take opinions. I don’t care if it’s addressed to the Halo fanboys, yeah they should learn that there are other points of view out there but half the time it’s not even an opinion and knowing how the extreme fanatics of this game act already, why are you still pushing these so called “opinions” out there? Some of us need to stop acting like their shit doesn’t stink because all of that is just instigating drama in the first place.

“Gaylo sucks ass”

“Halo is gay”

“Halo is the most overrated game ever”

“Halo is for twelve year-olds and fratboys” {This is often a blatant stereo-type that gamers use to insult the fans of Halo}

 “Halo fanboys need to stop thinking that it is the best game ever”

These comments are… it’s…. Uh… *sigh* fuck it I’m just going to say it: This is accepted trolling! When did we gamers degrade ourselves to become haters and trolls? Now it’s like we put comments out there and claim them as opinions when it’s clearly just to piss off the fanbrats to start a flamewar.

Also, let’s not all act as if someone insult something we like we wouldn’t care. Maybe for some but come on, others know that we don’t take insult to things as jokes so well. Whereas the bias and double standard bullshit comes in, let’s say I would talk about the Superman 64 game and say that it sucks, everyone would agree with no problems and no rebuttals. However, if I would start insulting the Legend of Zelda franchise {A series which I actually love by the way} I would get a lot of flame comments and see comments on how I don’t know shit {I’m actually imagining it right now}, but if would say in my defense: “Take other people opinions” it wouldn’t work now would it? If someone said to me: “Legend of Zelda sucks ass” I would be like: “Different strokes, different folks.” That’s it.

In conclusion, everybody that I stated in this rant need to get it together to cut the whining, moaning, complaining and please stop making threads about who said this and who did that to a game. The fanbrats need to learn that there are different interests out there and life isn’t a bitch, also if you have a different opinion out there it does not mean you are right either and you won’t prove anything by forcing someone’s throat either. If it’s not hard to be labeled as a nerd out there but to deal with this crap, I’m sorry to say this but it comforts me that most of this happens on the internet because if we would do this face to face then we would eat the shit out of each other just to prove our point.
