Best of 2008

The best games of 2008 in my opinion!

List items

  • The most action game RPG I think I've ever played, but I thoroughly enjoyed the combat, the art direction, and exploration.

  • I hear lots of people didn't like the shooting in this game. I wouldn't know because I never shot anyone! This game was about traversal and hand to hand. I hope there is a sequel one day.

  • Still great, to me Rainbow Six is Splinter Cell with 2 helpers. Sneaking around and then breaching doors remains a thrill, especially in the Vegas environment.

  • It took a long time for me to play this one, but I'm glad I did because it ended up being one of my favorite games this year.

  • I loved this JRPG and am so sad that there will likely never be a sequel. I really enjoyed the flashbacks and how Kaim's past unraveled through those dreams. The first few nights I tried to play they put me to sleep, but I stuck with it and I'm glad I did.

  • This was my first Tales game and I enjoyed the exploration and story and never felt like I had to grind levels to get through something.

  • Sequel to one of the games that really surprised me last year. This wasn't as good as last years, but I still enjoyed it.

  • My first Q Entertainment game and I was really impressed. Not by the play style, but the music and how it interacted with my actions. Seems simple, and looking at all the parts I don't know why but I love this game.

  • I took many years off from Lara and it was good to play again. Exploration and puzzle solving = winner.

  • I know everyone thinks Zombie mode, but I'm into CoD games for the single player.

  • I feel this game got way too much credit, but I'm not blind to the fact that it's an engaging unique game.

  • I never played with online was busted because I was very late to the party, however I played four player coop with my nephews and brother and we went through the entire game in one night. We all loved it.

  • I thought this was a great reboot of a franchise that had grown tired.

  • Just when I thought I was sick of Lego games, they reel me back in!

  • Revisiting a classic N64 platformer from the days of platformers. Tight controls and on par with a Mario game.

  • One of those games that appeals to everyone. My friends and their wives all ended up playing and loving this.

  • The comic makes me laugh sometimes, but a full game? They can't do it. I was wrong. I loved the old school feel and real time combat system that looked like a SNES rpg.

  • Suspenseful and builds tension by telling a story that sucked me in. Great use of the fog, which was no doubt so thick and close to deal with technical limitations but it was used well in the story.

  • Solid game all around.

  • Go ahead, finish doing your double take.

Yeah, I loved Bolt. Penny played like a stealth game, collectibles, and fun platforming. I will admit I loved the movie, but there were times when I thought, "I can't believe this licensed kid's game is so good!"

  • Great card/board game with an awesome first person story, online battles, and of course deck building.

  • A terrible game that hooked me and I kept playing and playing. Sometimes you gotta fight through the flaws to find the real fun in a game.
