Not Without Issues, But Lots of Fun 2

I suppose the first thing I need to say is that I really enjoyed Edna & Harvey: The Breakout. It’s a fun game with a lot of positives. The voicing is, for the most part, very good (especially with Edna and Harvey themselves, which is fortunate as they’re the voices you hear by far the most). There is a lot of recorded dialogue, too – Edna typically doesn’t make generic responses, but will say things tailored to the action you’re trying to do which is neat to see, as it’s something that doesn...

Strangely addictive 0

Killer 7  is a game about a syndicate of assassins called the Killer 7. The Killer 7 are actually one person with multiple personalities, and they can be changed between at will, as they go on missions that concern the heaven smiles, which they need to destroy. There's more to the plot, but to say more would spoil it, so I'll leave it there. This is actually the first shooter game that I've ever played - it's not a genre that typically interests me, but I was drawn in by promises of the bizarre ...

A Good Game in its Own Right 0

I'd never actually played a Shadow Hearts game before picking up Shadow Hearts: From the New World, so I can judge it on its own basis and not how it compares to its predecessors.    Shadow Hearts: From the New World is a pretty good game. The combat system is fun and can be quite challenging as it depends on how well the player can handle the judgement ring system. Everything operates on that system - from attacking, to healing, to reviving players. If you choose to double attack, hope that yo...

A game that goes all over the place 0

Indigo Prophecy (or Fahrenheit as it's known here) is an interesting and stylish game. Its quality, however, is hugely variable throughout the game.  The use of splitscreen in many situations adds a sense of urgency and a knowledge of what's going on, and the dynamic of playing as Lucas, then as Carla and Tyler investigating what Lucas did is very interesting, as you end up following different trails of evidence and having to keep both parties happy. It's an interesting premise that, on the whol...

An interesting story that prefaces Final Fantasy VII 0

Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core is a strong game; there’s no other way of saying it. It is part of the Final Fantasy VII compilation and the prequel to Final Fantasy VII itself, centring on Zack, who is referenced several times in the original game.  The odd thing about Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core is that if you’ve ever played Final Fantasy VII, you go into it knowing exactly what the ending is going to be. In a sense the ending is unimportant, though you want to see it; the game is about th...

More dungeon crawling and frantic searching than story 0

.hack//Quarantine is the fourth game in a series that follow Kite playing a MMORPG called The World. Unfortunately, people have started dropping into comas from playing The World, and Kite’s friend is one of those victims. There are odd things going on in The World, and Kite’s the person with the key to stop it – as he’s been given certain powers allowing him to “hack” the game.   .hack//Quarantine plays in much the same manner as the previous .hack games. You play as Kite and he is the only ch...

A worthy addition to the franchise 0

Kingdom Hearts II is the third game in the Kingdom Hearts series, and it improves on a number of mis-steps that the previous games provide. While there is little comparison in terms of gameplay with Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, which employs a card based battle system, this is not the case with the original game.  Kingdom Hearts II introduces the concept of action commands – times during battle that you can press triangle in order to dodge attacks/make certain attacks. This not only bro...

Charming fun with some mild issues 0

Psychonauts is a very charming game that is a hybrid of a platformer and a more adventure orientated game. This both helps and hinders the experience depending on which genre you favour. Psychonauts is the story of Razputin, a boy who has broken into a government training facility in order to hone his psychic skills. Unfortunately, things aren’t so simple, and a chain of events starts that Raz decides he needs to get to the bottom of – and quickly, too. Several things are immediately striking...
