I am 40 minutes in and I still have no fuckin clue what this category even is. And you can tell from how quiet Jeff, Jason and to a certain degree Brad are, that they are not all on a single page either. Like arguing that you don't interact with the world in a shooter is super dumb. You interact with that game by shooting nazis. Same for Mario + Rabbids, its an XCOM-like, of course you are interacting with everything. You inherently making this an open-world games category. And then you also wanna strip away the story from it, which i have no idea how one can even do? This is super weird.
It's kinda funny seeing them argue for Destiny 2 after all the shit that happened in the last month. Aren't strikes not available anymore for vanilla players?
Man, I'm in a unique position for this site, in that Switch is my first console. I have never played Mario game before. And this whole marketing and quick look, everytime i look at this game i feel like it is just a huge fan service without much actual depth.
Like when i look at the moment-to-moment gameplay, its just riding on something, where the novelty should wear of pretty quickly, and "killing" stuff with this long homing attack with the cap. Neither looks "fun" to me i guess? On top of that everytime i see Mario stil keep moving because of momentum after Dan presumably stopped moving/changed direction, i feel frustrated through the screen even without playing it. That one of my most hated things in movement in games.
If things i mentioned are not actually true, and you get to find new things to capture and control all the time, that feel unique, then I'm afraid how is it gonna feel like to someone like me, who doesnt know Marioverse. Will it feel fun to explore and learn what they do, or is just gonna be frustrating because i did not have prior (expected) knowledge?
When most people request from gaming sites to put on review duty people who like the niche genre the game belongs to, in this special case i personally would like to see also fresh untainted opinion. If this universal praise would still hold up.
I guess I'll download the demo and try for myself.
Edit: Well, there's actually no demo available in store, that's supremely disappointing.
