Best Games I Played In 2020

Best wishes to you, hope you are staying safe during the pandemic... It looks like there's a light at the end of the tunnel as the vaccines are starting to get rolled out. I'm generally pretty introverted, but even I can't wait for the lockdowns to end.

This year I mostly stuck to playing my Switch and tried to clear out the most interesting games from my backlog there. Nowadays, I still enjoy playing games but I'm tending to play only one big game at a time and really dig into it. I just bought "Darkest Dungeon" and at the rate I play games I expect it will take me most of next year to finish... so I guess that'll be my GOTY for next year!

  • I didn't expect an open-world vaporwave murder mystery adventure game to be the best game I played this year, but here we are... As a huge fan of the Phoenix Wright games, this was a fantastic twist on the genre. The story and lore blew me away... I seriously don't understand how they came up with that stuff. The music is fantastic as well.

  • I just really like the endless challenge mode. I'll put on a podcast and zone out playing 2D Mario levels for an hour or two. I know this game is relatively disliked compared to its predecessor, but it does what I need it to do.

  • You know the deal. It's probably the site's big GOTY winner this year. Well deserved.

  • This studio put out a horror adventure game called "The Count Lucanor" a few years ago, which became something of a cult hit. Yuppie Psycho is the bigger, better follow-up to that game... They did a great job with the atmosphere, and the writing is quite clever.

  • This is one of the best rogue-likes I've played in a long time, it's too bad that it seemingly got lost in the shuffle. Bringing the Deus Ex mission style to a rogue-like worked a lot better than I would have imagined, and there's a lot of cool variety in the different character types.

  • I'm usually not one for racing games, but the low poly art-style grabbed my attention for this one. The car handling took a while to get used to, but I think this game's pretty solild.

  • A pretty fun rogue-like, but my victories were a little too dependent on RNG for my liking.
