Also, some small shit. Every weapon in the game is viable and useful if you upgrade it and play it right. Upgrading equipment is almost always preferred over your character. Try something heavy or try parrying. It's so satisfying to beat the silver and black knights in one hit.
You have no idea, I got Arkham City and Rage as well, I love my library with a passion. Will do, though.
I kind of see your point very well, going back to your OP post...
First of all i have like 300 hours in this game. Never played Demon Souls and i play it on Xbox 360, and i'm no fanboy of anything whatsoever. Also that elitist bullshit fanboyism from others is offtopic. If the man doesnt like the game, what is YOUR problem with that ?
And i do think that this game is one of the best i have ever played.
The funny thing is, that a friend of mine started with me at the same day. He found the Drake Sword (since the idiot read on the forums) i didnt. I was relying on an Axe i found and spear to vary my playstyle. I then saw how my friend plays with that uber weapon called the Drake Sword. And i remember exactly what i thought that day:
"holy balls, this is WAY overpowered. This is ridicoulos, one hit everything ? Pff..."
It takes out ALOT of challenge and makes the game the same time frustrating, because since you onehit everything straight down to blighttown where the sword starts to wither you dont have to consider the most fun aspects about the game:
- Strategy in Melee against even the weak ones
- Your damage vs your ability to take damage goes WAY out of balance, since the DrakeSword is an excellnet offensive weapon but you have no life to back that up if you just carelessly try to run through, thus leading you furthermore to dully fight your way kind of 1 hitting but still dull through the levels. The whole experience is very dull and not rewarding, even if you die and beat a passage afterwards since weaponhandling doesnt matter! The moveset of the dragon sword is... well... yawn.
- You flat out miss out other weapons and their movesets, thus not "learning" them. The Learning curve in terms of Gameskills behind the Pad is so crazy i notice it everytime i switch through my weapons i prefer to fight with.
- You lack the Enjoyment of Upgrading. Upgrading makes your Weapons gradually stronger plus you "grow" with a weapon. At the start you suck balls with pretty much everything but as you start to learn a weapon you get better at it, and you maybe upgrade it little by little, making you even more competent in it. There is a big satisfaction burried in that deep since for me this is the biggest achievment in this game i got. Not the bosses... not the levels, the different weapons. You can make any weapon (except for broken hilts :P ) into good viable weapons if you upgrade them and learn to play them really and they MATTER.
After 300 hours i beat the game like 5-6 times, i am in NG++ with my main character and PvP with the othes, still i can say that this game turned out so different than what i expected. This game teaches you patience and rewards you great for it. But its not necessarly difficult, it is VERY tactical and strategical. If that would have been taken away from me right from the start i'd think i may have turned out on what you described. However, there is no reason why you should punish yourself further, just play something else...
I'm a person who reads alot about their games, and everytime i see "uh you got to have this weapon and this rign adn this" my list of items that i'm certainly not getting is getting longer and longer and longer. I still till this day never bothered with a fog ring, tranquil walk, lightning weapons etc. since i want to be a specialist in something people dont expect. And i'm quite successful judging from my PvP experience.
And i absolutely fucking love this game.
