so, the school has some laptops that are around 12 years old just sitting in some cabinets, and my physics teacher decided today that he didn't want to see them anymore, so he pulled out 7 or 8 of them, and just gave them to anyone who wanted them. I took one (it was free, so I thought why not), but i dont exactly know what to do with it

I'm thinking of updating the parts, but i dont know how to go about doing that (or if i can do that), so........

Any ideas about how to get started?

Delete everything. Install linux. Run a Quake server on it. Put Jurassic Park drumstep remixes on there.

Install DOS and play old games on it.

Eat it!

You can't really do anything to upgrade it, the only real use for it would be playing old games that don't work well on modern systems.

Game server, media server, DLNA server, file downloader, web host, maybe?

take it to the desert and shoot it

Use it as a doorstop.

yes, it was a great first comment. I am planning on doing something with linux. One of the kids was going to take it apart and (somehow) case it in an N64 and use it to play (N64 games). If that doesnt work, he's going to use it as an emulator.

Install Windows 98, turn on the aquarium screen saver, and place the laptop inside an empty fish tank. Place the fish tank in a prominent place for displaying things in your home, and feel the pride begin to grow!
