@yodasdarkside: Whose entitlement? I've said that I'm not entitled to any answers or response from Dan. Or anyone, just wanna add.

@tobbrobb: No, it's not about Skullgirls. But that speculation, if that does turn out to be Dan's actual slant on things, is worth addressing. Probably not here, but that's a thinker right there.

@corevi:

This thread isn't for asking the question, it was only for asking how to contact Dan. But it's looking like my only options are Twiter or PM, not both. I already Tweeted him, so now all I can do is wait.

But you're saying that Dan won't answer me unless I ask you guys the question first? Because this thread isn't for asking the question, just for asking how to contact Dan. If Dan shows up here, then yeah, then the thread becomes a host to the question, because he'll be here, and I'll be all like "Oh hey Dan, I have a question for you if you please."

Not "sexist." Like I said, semantics. Touchy stuff. I'm kinda wary of continuing on without Dan, because I keep needing to remind people "No, this isn't about me. No, I didn't say sexist. No, I said I wanted to ask Dan."

To dive even further into this? I might be asking for trouble, and I'm at work right now so I can't be called on to put out every fire when someone says "Oh, but the difference between that game and Bayoneta is that that game is sexist and and Bayonetta-" when I clearly said "We're not comparing how sexist the games are."

@splodge: In my defense, I constantly repeat "I'll save it for Dan, no one here can answer it."

Well, I'm not obligated any answers or response from him, I've steered clear of touchy subjecture myself and I'm probably way less busy than he is.

I think you're conflating "sexist portrayal" with "offensive portrayal." If I was to say "I have a problem with all the crotch shots" and your answer was "Well here's why Bayonetta isn't sexist", that's a mistake. I didn't say the crotch shots were "sexist" specifically. The sheer semantics of that word are such a pressure bomb that there's no right way to eat that Reese's. I would just be saying that the crotch shots are some kind of problem. "Sexist" is too much of a gotcha word.

Those are nice thoughts. And I've heard them before. But I just said I'm not asking "Why isn't Bayonetta sexist?"

I've heard that she was designed by a woman. I've heard that she's never "in distress." I know these things. There's a lot of good to say about Bayonetta, but the presence of "good" doesn't take away the "bad." And the bad isn't necessarily "Bayonetta is sexist." Maybe she isn't. If being at a disadvantage because you're a woman is specifically what it takes to be sexist, congratulations, Bayonetta is far from sexist.

But that's not what I'm asking. That was never what I was asking.

But see? I just said this isn't about my opinion vs. his opinion, it's about his opinion vs. his opinion. He's found similar content "offensive" in the past. I wanna know, couldn't similar accusations be levied against Bayonetta/Bayonetta 2? That doesn't mean Bayonetta isn't a good fighting game and doesn't deserve its stars, it doesn't mean Bayonetta isn't confident and dominant and badass and all those other positive things people love to remind everyone about in this debate, I'm just asking, do the same critiques apply and he just felt that the good outweighed the bad, or did the critiques NOT apply and I'm just confused or what? Did I not understand the critiques in his past reviews?

I don't wanna second-guess anyone, but just in case anyone wants to fall back to the comments section under Bayonetta 2's review, I didn't ask "Why isn't Bayonetta sexist?" We could debate that until Bayonetta 3. I'm asking "Why isn't Bayonetta not also guilty of the same critiques you've levied against games in the past?"

Yeah, I don't feel entitled to an answer. Just thought I'd give it a try, I've seen him respond to outright angry critique directly about him. I figured if he's got time to respond to that, my thing should be easy enough to squash.

On the other hand, they do discuss Bayonetta's portrayal in the comments section. Does Dan not wanna take questions about that? I'm not asking to discuss what sexism is or sex-positive feminism or any of those nebulous concepts, I'm not asking "How is Bayonetta not sexist?" This isn't even about my opinion vs. his opinion, it's about his opinion vs. his opinion. This is a thing he's discussed in reviews before.

But from the comments, it seems like discussing that with regards to Bayonetta is "not talking about the games" and I should "go back to the containment article." My question might just be too close to "How is Bayonetta not sexist?" for Dan's tastes.

What's further, what legs do I have to stand on? Bayonetta 2 is getting widespread praise across the board. For every four people with issue regarding Bayonetta's design, there are 40 others who see absolutely nothing to say anything about. This is about me trying to understand why I'm so wrong.
