This happens every year but i think since so many new systems came out this will be a more difficult year to do GOTY. To add to that im putting my condolences for my lost ones who will just get a mention then lose to ....Horizon Zero Dawn, destiny 2, player unknown battlegrounds, Mario Oddessy, Mario kart 8, Star wars Battlefront 2, hellblade, Doom:switch edition - should be up for winning since mario kart 8 is also and it is on a new platform that changes the feeling of the game dramatically. Like playing a port on 3ds in 3d feels different enough to change your feelings on it.
To my fallen bethren not going to top 10 because no one played them or only one person did/too long to finish/sequels so the team burnt out on it even if its still good: Resident Evil 7, Persona 5, Divinity original sin 2, Splattton 2, wolfenstein 2 (gonna be good but i can see the team bounching off it due to the burnt out feeling. Shadows of Mordor: Shadows of war (won goty before but the team seems burnt on it and even seems like they regret giving it goty before in retrospect...micro backlash wont help either) game looks 2x better then before like a real sequel should. Zelda: BOtW - might get in top 10 but jeff's not too into it. Nioh, Nier Automata, Injustice 2, Uncharted 4 dlc (note uncharted 4 didnt even win no way uncharted 4 condensed does), Sniper elite 4 and some more obscure ones that werent bad but not super fun like PUBG is to some. what remains of eiden finch, Sonic mania, Prey, NBA 2k18 (simulation sports games almost never win), Forza M 7 (see NBA 2k18) Outlast 2 (no one likes horror that much/finished it) Absolver (no one likes dark souls methodical combat that much)

2017 GOTY podcasts will be hours upon hours of headbutting filibusters between PUBG and Destiny 2, with Death of the Outsider, Prey, Divinity: Original Sin II, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and Cuphead falling by the wayside.
And I can't wait to skip this years Hottest Mess, if it's anything like 2016.
Agree with you on this, and it's going to be heartbreaking to listen to the 2017 GOTY podcasts knowing that nobody on the staff will have even played Divinity: Original Sin II because from what I've played so far (end of Act 1), there exists no CRPG that is it's equal since the heyday of BioWare/Black Isle.
That alone should mean it has a top 5 spot locked up, even in a year as strong as 2017 is. It'll be lucky to be even mentioned.

This video shows just how much fun dishonored 2 could be but most on staff didnt have the time to put into it. I believe no one got to the spoiler time manipulation level or the clockwork level changing before your eyes level. They were surprised how amazing titanfalls 2 campaign was due to some of the stuff i thought dishonored did better. Hell hitman and disonerded are both great with hitman giving you a more casual have fun stealth feel so i understand how disonored got shaffted. Plus the team has limited time so PUBG seems ripe for GOTY for them. No game has been played and kept interest by the entire staff like this one. Rocket league was once like this for the entire staff till they played it for 3 or 6 hours straight and burnt jeff out. PUBG hasnt made jeff say its flaws hurt his enjoyment yet...the opposite has occured and the flaws helped his enjoy ment somewhat. (Jank). Anyway i see Doom winning 2nd place with it coming out on VR and Nintendo so it can run for GOTY again. PUBG wins number 1. Destiny wins 5. Nier gets 10 with a shrug much like witcher 3 dlc since its just so big and bearly anyone played it. Sonic might get biggest surprise cause the staff liked a sonic game for once. Prey wont make nor divinity. Wolfensein might get 9. Xcom 2 will be on the list. Bayonetta may get a mention, Pyre could get 8. Hellblade 7, And overall absolver might get it somewhere should be a fun fight. Mario Oddessy may get a mention but much like zelda BOTW not the entire cast will enjoy it enough for top 10 but if its on the list it could be 5 and 4.
@pokysharpy: I think your speaking on closed ears at this point if a person thinks he was right or ok to say or do what he did they will keep defending him. Im closing my other comments cause it seems pointless. I appreciate that their are people like you who in 2017 still understand simple things we learned in Kindergarten. Treat people with civility and your character is a measure of what you say and do.
I adored Shenmue as game when I played it as a teen, but I'm not blinkered enough to think its anything other than a clunky, awful gameplay loop that's aged exceptionally poorly.
This game is demonstrably worse.

Kingdom hearts fans understanding how Shenmue fans felt on that playthrough. I think the GB team should stick to games they played as children like mario 64 (which also would not hold up as good if compared to 2017 standards) or just play new games. They can never enjoy old games. They think Mario sunshine sucks. I heard they didnt enjoy MGS4 much too. I want them to enjoy themselves not just sigh that they have to play a game for their job. That being said I would love for them to play a current game where its beloved like witcher 3 then shIt on it the same way they do here by running around aimlessly, ignoring dialogue, and not using the arrows. I wanna see the team of haters in the comment try twist the narrative to defend their beloved game while getting angry at people who defended shemnue, kingdom hearts, sonic, etc...
@trilogy: So glad people get to feel how it is for shenmue fans when you ignore everything the game tries to help you with and say it is bad. In the era where all games are follow the arrow and press x when you clean out the room of goons im so glad i can confirm old games are not bad but people today just can not wrap their head around taking things for their own era. Same way crash remake got shIT on I can see that soon 20 years form now Witcher 3 will be called trash and slow to start while Zelda BOTW will be called clunky and hard to play.. NOTE shemnue and kingdom hearts had great 9/10 or 8/10 scores when they came out. Thats an average higher than popular games today like assassins creed, Destiny, etc. Also running needlessly and not careing for what your doing then saying its sucks is like drinking 3 40s turning the volume off and trying to play through a jrpg and wondering why their is no arrow showing where to shoot. Im not making fun of ben thou this is more on the comment section. Bens doing fine for someone who dislikes the series he is trying alot and the gameplay has a oldschool ps2 era of you kinda have to pay attention to stuff to know where to go and play in 4 hour chunks. This doesnt lend itself to playing for 40 min then again next week. Reminds me of when the shemnue guys gave up and waited at a door for 30 minutes cause they didnt get the multiple hints of where to go or how to enjoy themselves.

Yeah playing sonic like this is the equivalent of not getting a forza motor sports game as you keep crashing into walls full speed each turn cause you dont slow down. I would hate sonic too if i boiled it down to "you just press go right in the first level so the rest of the game must just be that right?" Benefit of the doubt Brad's opinion on this game mimics most people on the half who hate sonic/compare it to mario. So i get the audience.
Im surprised how sonic fandom or rpg fandom gets crap (not on this site just in general) yet sports fandom is a whole other ball game. Maybe the crowd that plays action shooters and rpgs doesnt get into sports games but just look at this ever updating meta spreadsheet of players
