Games I played in 2020
A new decade of games!
A new decade of games!
This one really didn't grab me. Great productin values, I just didn't feel any sense of agency. The binaural sound and compelling sense of Senua's mental illness couldn't make up for what felt like, at its core, a game of Walking in a straight line and flat combat.
Best Star Wars game since Knights of the Old Republic. Roll on the sequel!
Luigi shines in the best game in the series so far. Filled with so many delightful little touches of humour and inventiveness.
This time on Switch! A game design masterclass.
Dug up the old 3DS to play this for the first time. Man, oh, man, the 8 bit goodness!
A classic brought to glittering life in the modern era.
Well, talk about a modern classic. What a game!
Bought this one sale on to play while social distancing. Turns out what I always pegged for Odyssey's lesser sibling is actually the best Assassin's Creed ever? The world! The characters! Even the story isn't half bad.
And the Game of the Year is...
An interesting premise but failed to grab me.
No wait, the Game of the Year is...my favourite game from when I was 15?
War of the Chosen.
A fun 45 minutes.
What to do in a game-deprived pandemic? Play a 7 year old MMO for the first time! And find out it's secretly the best Final Fantasy game in 20 years?
No one can top Naughty Dog's attention to detail and performance capture. Too bad it's married to such a depressing and brutal world. I really didn't need to immerse myself in a dystopia that's actually *worse* than our current one in 2020.
Isle of Armor DLC
One of the year's best, and certainly the biggest surprise of the year so far.
And a sweet hike it was.
Derek Yu described this as the Super Mario World to Spelunky HD's Super Mario Bros. And it fits - so many more secrets, and also just as brutally unforgiving. One day I'll make it past World 2.
Supergiant's best yet.
Beyond Light.
