My question is why is it not enough for Giant Bomb to cover video games? That's what it started as and that's what most people come here for.

I'm going to have to decline to discuss that subject here. My views are known. I think it would derail the matter at hand.

Ok i completely understand that.

I remember before all the news coverage exploded you wanted to "tone down things with gamergate" and try and have a civilized discussion.
And that monday i think it was the major media coverage began.

My question is how is this diffusing a situation that's been horrible in all sides?Seems like it will just keep escalating until something even more horrible happens.

I saw something you wrote about how Giant Bomb should hire a woman and talk about feminist and women issues ( related to gaming I'm guessing ) on the site.

My question is why is it not enough for Giant Bomb to cover video games? That's what it started as and that's what most people come here for.

Considering most sites like polygon/kotaku and others are covering these issues why should Giant Bomb be taking the same approach as companies who they are competing with.A different approach has been proven to work for GB.

I personally think this game shows how Morally outraged people can get over something they disagree with.

And i find it hilarious. We haven't played the game or seen anything more than the 70 second gameplay trailer. But everywhere i see the old tired "This game is bad and you should feel bad" for even wanting to try and play it.

I even saw brilliant suggestions in the youtube comments such as "This should be censored" and "You should make the people into vampires this is problematic". I laughed heartily.

Brutality and murdering for its own sake has proven that it has its place in most other media. And by judging the likes/dislikes on the video of Hatred I'm guessing it will have a good receiving(if it is not a broken piece of s).But the moral outrage and people "TAKING A STAND" against it seems far to similar to the days of past where people were outraged over mortal kombat.

These loonies certainly aren't the face of the people they're attempting to represent, and it's pretty god damn awful that when people talk about people who oppose the thinkings of Sarkeesian and other individuals on that side of the thought spectrum, these are the kind of people who instantly spring to mind, not the "Well, I disagree on this, because *3 paragraphs of well thought out discussion points*, but I do see what you mean by it, and by no stretch are you wrong" types.

I don't want the world to think that because I play videogames, that this is the sort of person I am. Is it too much to ask of these people, that I dunno, they can be assholes in their own right without using the rest of us as a crutch to somehow justify their behaviour, as if it makes it any less of a hurtful thing to do?

I wish more people would share this sentiment.

A few assholes do not represent a whole.

I made this comment before but it's like saying all Muslims are terrorists, all Christians are homophobic bigots, and all conservatives are racist. It's simply not true.

I'm afraid instances like the MSNBC article will only add fuel to the fire. When you demonize the opposition you only give them more reason to keep going. It's so easy to paint someone who disagrees with you as a misogynist, homophobic, racist, troll and wave away their argument with a sneer of ivory tower smugness. All you have to do is look in the past for examples of this behavior. History just repeats itself, over and over ad nauseam.

These guys get it.Extremists hide in every group.Labeling all of it as extreme just because there are a few crazies is dishonest and bad for the discussion that the majority are trying to have.

I will outright condemn any threats made towards people. Threats shouldn't happen AT ALL.

But blaming #GamerGate for all of this seems a bit premature. This could still be a troll just looking to cause chaos. The authorities are looking into all these threats, so let them do their job.

I still think GG is fighting for something that matters, and will continue to support it.

GamerGate was poisoned from the VERY BEGINNING. It was never fighting for something that matters. That was not the goal and it hasn't made any progress toward reaching that anyway. Stop defending a broken movement.

Or do whatever you want. And escapist and kotaku changing their policies clearly has changed nothing.

At least check stuff before you write the words.

@monkeystick:

Twitter's inability to actually police harassment is hilariously bad.On sunday anita got spammed by some random asshole that he was going to murder her.

Pro gamergate and antigamergate people went in there mass reported him and it took about 8-10 hours for twitter to actually do something. The account must have gotten reported 5k+ times.

After the spammer saw that gamergate people were defending anita the guy spammed and threatened people on the tag also.

Crazies gonna crazy.

Why don't some hackers use their powers for good, and find out who these people that are making death threats are, publish their names, addresses, where their children go to school, etc. Let's see how they like it. Turnabout is fair play.

Sounds like a great idea until some hacker with a personal vendetta against somebody makes fake evidence and posts it as fact and somebody gets destroyed.
