No celebrities allowed.

A couple days ago all of my wildest dreams came true when Rich Gallup, yes THE Rich Gallup replied to one of my messages. Why does this mean so much to me? Because on Gamespot this never would have happened.

Gamespot has an absolute popularity contest. Some users I would almost consider celebrities. Alot of them wouldn't even bother to talk to low level users like me.

And thats why this place is so beautiful. I have have regular old conversations with the likes of Rich Gallup, a few of the Mods, Denis (NeoJedi), and even Brad took some time out of his busy day to answer a question of mine.

This community is so laid back, and so new, that everyone is on the same level. All the guys popular at Gamespot are just low level users like me. Guys like Denis, aren't flooded with a million pm's so they have time to actually have conversations, and maybe even meet some new people.

Which brings me back to my point of no celebrities. To become a Mod on Gamespot you had to be a high level, very established user. Most mods are good friends with an employee at Gamespot. At least the ones Ill seen. On this site Mods were picked solely out of how good of a user they were. It was not like "Hey Jeff this guy has 2000 post and 68 friends already, hed be a great mod. It was more like "Hey Jeff check this dudes blog out, he really seems like he can help the site."

Which is why this whole thing will work out. The mods aren't in it for glory. They don't feel higher then everyone else. I've talked to three mods already and they were all very happy to talk to me. Mods on this site don't get anything in return. They do it for the good of the community. And thats how it should be.

Im sorry this is very unorganized but I hope you guys get my point. Were all in this together here. No user is higher up the the fab fours eyes then another.

Thanks for reading. Ill elaborate on this more, in future blogs, once I get my ideas organized.

EDIT- My first full length article was published. Its in the Mario Tennis for n64 game page. Feel free to edit, I was never that good at grammer.

Exactly! When you had a question really the only place to go was welcome noobies...and everyone knows how embarrassing it is to post somthing on there. If I need help on this site I can go right to the source.

And I cant imagine how helpful the 4 will be once this submission thing slows down.

I sorta see Giantbomb as an evolution of community interactions if that makes sense. It's always cool to get messages from people that would be deemed "celebs" in the gaming world. I remember a conversation I had with Jeff on Myspace a few weeks ago. lol

Giant Bomb is liberation!

It's a much nicer feeling, I used to get like 5-10 PMs a day on GS, while I get basically none on here. Let me know if you want to chat sometime.

I actually had... errr... 19 PMs when I got on the site today.  Hehe.
But you are right, this place is cool because everybody is on the same level.  I never considered myself as a celebrity over on GS, even though I was popular.  It's great to see you here man and finally be able to have these types of conversations.

Yeah, I'm a moderator at GameSpot but I think they take how good you are as a user into account.

Yea man I totally agree. Brad just replied to a message I sent him no longer than an hour ago. This is certainly a friendlier atmosphere.

I feel the same, everyone is on a level playing field and can be friends. GameSpot can be intimidating to low level users trying to be friends with upper level users when they know people for a long time.

Here, everyones friends (sounds hippie I know)

I know, it's very laid back here! I asked Jeff the other day how it felt to be #2 in points and he left a message on my Wall. It's so crazy - stuff like this never happened at GameSpot (or any other place, for that matter).

AlexMarra is right.  It's a completely different feel here at GB.  I had a blog recently stating that I was surprised at how my concerns (to which I never expected a response) were addressed through PM's in nearly no time.  I said then, and I believe it now that the guys have an amount of pride in what they've created and want to take those who frequent the site with consideration.  They want to respond, because this is their baby.

Hey I read your article on Mario Tennis. Really good stuff there. I agree with you man, its a real laid back community. I like that when everyone was asking about being a mod and stuff brad just posted up the status and I thought that was extremely helpful. Its nice to see that they act like users more than just "staff" you know? They want to see giantbomb grow as well which I think is why its so laid back and fun.
