LOVE the new controls. As someone w/ a 150,000+ score in Re4's Mercenaries and as someone who used to speed-run the "old-school" RE's in under 2 hours, the slight refinements made to the controls are more than enough to excite. However, I can easily understand how they will definitely be frustrating to new players used to this generation's more streamlined, more-mobile, "run-and-gun" controls.
The important thing to realize is that this isn't those games. It will take some rewiring to adjust to the controls and the philosophy behind them, but no game will match the roller-coaster ride RE5 will provide this year. Mark my words.
haha, yeah I was listening to 1up Yours last night and when I heard the Bomb squad bumbling into the podcast room off mic, I nearly lost it! Fun show, guys. :-]
I don't think it's either fair or right to compare this to games such as Left 4 Dead/Gears of War. It's all in the pacing, and Resident Evil is more about that feeling of dread you get when you're outnumbered and slowly being herded into a corner by the mob. The truth is, you don't want to move while aiming. Such an "innovation" would break the flow of the game. It's not about run 'n gun, it's about plotting out your moves in advance, navigating the masses, and carefully [skillfully] picking off fools when you're in a favorable situation to do so.
It's also about peeing your pants. tl;dr- Play RE5, love it, pee pants.
I'm buying a 360 specifically for this game. I would also like to direct my fellow RE-heads to check out the-horor.com, updated daily with RE5 nuggets.
